Question Cleaning your Vinyl...

The search button is not working, so...
I was talking to someone the other day and he said I could use lighter fluid. He said that it cleans the vinyl very well and it also keeps them static free to avoid that static pop that happens every once in a while. Is this true? wouldn't it make the records smell weird? how do you use it?

any info is appreceated.
