i get the disconnect sometimes from rogers. not sure if that's the best way to reconnect by disconnecting your modem. go to the cmd line and type ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew.

not sure what you're d/ling, so can't help you there.

Yea I don't need to know how to reconnect because the unplugging is doing me just fine and that doesn't work on DSL anyways.

Doesn't matter what I'm downloading either it's just that they disconnect you when your speeds are too high I'm guessing or you download a certain amount of stuff in a short period of time, stupid fucking company.

I suggest smaller DSL companies, (tht.net)
the bigones are pricks, once they have enough people they introduce scamms and try to make as much as they can off of u!
bandwidth limit etc...

anwyas that thing that dude told u ipconfig /reales /renew might just work for UR DSL!!!!

and it could somany things that might have a factor on this...

2. update network card drivers < might be a problem right there
3. patch up system as a whole > windowsupdate if win.
thats basicaly it.. your network wire might be short circut'ing other than that.. call support

1. I have a router on my cable connection and it does fuck all and I won't bother getting it for my DSL connection because it would be pointless since it's right beside my computer and just would pose me a hassle in other situations not including the fact that it would be a waste of money.
2. and 3. It happens on both my DSL connection and my Cable connection so I highly doubt it's a network card or the system or a wire because it's two different computers with two different network cards and two different connections.

if you have a router, try configuring it. What happened for me is, that there was a setting, that if the system was idle it would disconect after a while. And for me my p2p programs didnt count as traffic, so i had to surf the net to keep the connection alive.

try changing that setting. Either one of two ways.

IE - go to the Tools menu, internet options, and connections, try looking around and chaning something something along the lines of "if connection is idle" business. just go into everything in "connections" and try it.

or

go to the address bar in IE and type in 192.168.1.1 and hit enter, hopefully a password window should come up, type in "admin" for the password, and hit enter. these are all the settings for your router, again try finding something that is "if connection is idle"

the second one worked for me, and i use Sympatico, with a router. hope it works

I appreciate the help but it's not that. I turned the Bittorrent upload limit to 1kb and only download 1 file at a time and it works fine. If I download any more though it'll just mess up my connection.

ever think about calling the tech help for your isp? i have sympatico high speed, and they have been really good at sorting out my problems. once i even needed a new modem cause my connection kept getting dropped, they sent me a new one, no prob.
