Not to mention they'll have either Ivan Rodriguez or Javy Lopez behind the plate next season as well, since they've offered both of them contracts.

the orioles and javy lopez just agreed on a deal he just has to sign across the dotted line. damn the orioles are looking pretty damn good contenders now and they are likely to get guerreo and maybe sidney ponson. wow orioles are back in the hunt now

Orioles still need a lot of help with their pitching to really contend in the postseason. They don't even have a bonafide closer...Watch out for the Angels though . If Colon doesn't get hurt, they'll have their first legitimate ace since Chuck Finley...

the orioles are still in the same division as the yankees and redsox, even with there improvments they'll strugle to win the wild card, which is a shame because they could compete for any of the other divisions in the al and be a wildcard favorite if they didnt have to play the sox and yanks about 20 times.

I'm not sure how well the Yankees will be able to compete this next season with their aging team and the losses to their pitching staff. Even when they officially acquire Kevin Brown I don't think he'll be able to bolster their staff, especially considering how injury prone he is and he's up their in age too. If they sign Guerro I'd say they have a legit shot at the the wild card. I really like the young guy, Kurt Ainsworth, one of the prospects they got from my Giants, he should be able contribute to the staff immediately.

In my opinion the yankees pitching staff is much better than it was last year. Consider last year Andy Petite had an era right around 4.0, while Kevin Brown had one of about 3.2 or 3.4 or something. And while Vazquez may not have the name of a Clemens or a Schilling I think he's the second best pitcher in the division(Pedro being first of course). One other thing, didnt Ainsworth hurt his shoulder and won't he miss like half the season? And that prospect(who's name escapes me at the moment too) is a stud from what I hear, but he's stil a rookie.

If Vasquez and Brown can stay healthy and can adjust to the American league then you'd probably be right. It'll be kind of interesting to see how they adjust and how the hitters adjust to them. The samething with Schilling, since it isn't hard to hit Schilling nowadays. As for Ainsworth, I believe he ended up recovering and coming back for a few games at the end of the season.
