Does america hate electronica?

Everytime i walk into a cd shop they have these huge sections for like rap, rock, oldies, r&b, and the rest of the crap that's out there. Always though, they have like one or two shelves that are for "Dance/Techno".

Ticks me off.

I can't even get UNKLEs new cd because no where here sells it.

Maybe it's just the places that I shop in. My usual place to go buy music at is Bestbuy, or Mediaplay. But even in other stores it just seems that us tranceaddicts get the shaft.

No, stores sell what sells or makes them profit. CD'S have never really been huge profit margins for cd stores. So they shift a ton of units of shitty pop cd's at low margins, they make more money than selling a cd at a high margin. The scene is huge in the States, it's just they sell what makes them profit, afterall it's why they are in business in the first place. Then again it's a gripe that many of us have had for yrs.

as said, stores sell what makes them money. in the states, for every person who prefers electronica there are a dozen who prefer pop, and if each buys a cd thatll cost 10-15 bucks, stores are probably gonna stock more of what sells

Yay, another Pittsburgh TA. No, it's not just the places you shop in. Hardly any stores around here have a good electronica selection. Surprisingly you can find some good vinyls in the store called "Hot Topic" which is usually in a mall. I've found stuff like Tiesto's "In My Memory" vinyl, Matt Darey's "MDM- Mash it Up", plus quite a few DuMonde remixes on vinyl.

This place sucks for quality trance/electronica CDs though, that's why I have a VERY limited collection of retail trance CDs.

HMV in toronto where I live has a decent selection, not the greatest..they carry some gu's, some electronic music cd's. I bought never never land for 14.99 and 19.99 the chemical brothers 2cd. Other cd's they sell are rediculously overpriced...means you need to go elsewhere to find the cd at a better price. I've said to HMV...sell at a better price..= less piracy and more ppl buying it.

Tower Records always has some good trance shit. But the downside to it, is that they are a couple bucks more than everyone else. I dont just buy trance cds, so ill get something in rock like Tool, I end up paying 3 or 4 bucks more than I would at best buy.

But I continue to shop at Tower because of their selection. Its sort of my way of saying thank you for stocking the trance albums.

I live in Ohio, and i was shocked to find that Hot Topic carries some decent 12". I hate going into that store for anything, but with the selection they provide, I try not to complain too much

i agree that stores sell what makes them money. however, most stores will order what you want...including bestbuy. try to find a smaller, more independant store, and support it.

hot topic has a majority of punk/metal/goth/emo kinda stuff, but in general, they cater to everything that isnt mainstream. which includes trance. if u go in, dont expect to find more than a rack or two of vinyl... most of it is limited pressings or rock tunes, or some rap... but what little trance they do carry is pretty good

yea, i kno aobut this stuff aside from being a tranceaddict, im definately into rock, aswell, so im in and out of hot topic on a regular basis
