waldorf q
check your local shop and ask a demo
it all depends on the sound you are after
waldorf q is a great synth but wont sound as warm as a virus or a novation (super)nova. You really have to play around with them, listen to the presets to hear what they are capable of.

grtz

A lot of people here have recommended triology and atmosphere by spectrasonic. I remember someone posted that access may come out with a new virus so you might want to hold of until that comes out.

I tend to wait a little for new stuff and then buying them at half the price second hand

Also you should ask yourself if you want a sample based synth (more polyphony, less warmth, less sound control) like the jv 1080,2080,... , a (virtual) analog synth (the opposite of above) (nord lead, nova, waldorf q, access virus, alesis andromeda, ...) or an fm synth (bells/electric pianos/efx) (dx 7, dx200, most va synths have now a limited fm implementation)
