Your track of the year

Complete with your review of the track...

Infusion vs. Kate Bush - Running up that hill

Starting with a set of simple instrumentation the track quickly builds in layers. From the getgo you can hear the a haunting sample that sounds frighteningly similar to vocals. At about the 2 minute mark the tempo changes markedly and the beat gets a lot fatter, the sample in the background gets a bit more clear and seemingly louder. At about the 3 minute mark it feels like the song is "closing in" and surrounding you. Temporarily, the fat beat disappears and then shortly thereafter reappears with an even greater effect. It shifts around a bit, adding to a sense of urgency in the track. Quite literally by the 5 minute mark the song is a sonic jungle, and it is impossible to process all the information at once. At the 5 minute mark or so, the sample in the background just dissapears, leaving you (or at least me), wondering. At about 5'30" the vocal sample comes out in full force, now recognizable

"come on baby, come on darling... let me steal this moment from you now..."
The sample continues throughout the track until the 7'30" mark where it fades out in a reverberating fashion. From this point on the track is deconstructing what it built up.

In my opinion, this is a prime example of good trance, although it doesn't exactly fit the "buildup/breakdown" formula that is most definately a good thing. The rythymic and atmospheric shifts in the song build it up so much that by the time you get to the vocal sample your literally blasted by the haunting and somewhat enigmatic "message." In my opinion, it is nothing like the original "kate bush - running up that hill" which isn't very interesting at all. Infusion really did a number with this track.

note: OMG!!! I DIE, is not a "review" and by review, I really mean how you feel about the track and a little journey in your words through it

Great Idea

Give me a bit to think about how I'd describe the song. . . .

P.S. Can there be more than one tune, or are you specifically looking for one, cuz I have 2 songs in mind. . .

"I’m a dance floor favorite? Great! I would say the passion that I feel for the music I buy and the honesty with how I play it. I play the records I love not the ones that simply work. I’ve never taken the easy music option (which would make me a lot more money by the way) but chosen to push people a little. I try to draw people in a new direction slightly and expand their taste a little more than other DJ’s." - Lee Burridge

Its a good idea, its just that most people are clueless and the best that they can come up with when they like a song is to say "wicked choon" and that's about it.

The format you've presented with a timeline breakdown of the song and what it does for you is much more interesting.

I happen to completely disagree with your review of running up that hill but its nice to see where your enjoyment lies.

I'm too sleepy at the moment but tomorrow i'll write one for North Pole.

regards

Aces Delight - Mental Theme (Ultra Trance Mix)

Starts with a beat layered with awesome elements which leads to a teaser breakdown which shows the half the beauty of the melody, kicking into a uplifting vibe making room for the "Adagio for Strings" like melody. Breaks down beautifully with sparkles and piano orgainized well to bring you a "mental theme", after a 3 minutes breakdown, cuts the melody and the riff begins the Mental journey of Aces Delight...

err i'm not so good at reviews eheh

BK & Dave Randall- Tiptronic

Tiptronic is one of those tracks where everything blends *perfectly* in the song. BK & Randall take last year's cracking hard trancer "Ascension" and repeat the formula, only this time the tribal vocals and tough basslines are replaced with a more etheral and trancy female vocal hook and some swirly synth spheres, while keeping the drum patterns and bassline that power every BK track. The breakdown builds into something, and then when you think its going to drop and just be another average track, the most energetic synth riff you'll hear this year storms into your conscious just in time for the track to blow the roof off. After the track peaks it comes back down towards Earth with the layers that have been added over the track gradually falling away to a smooth ending.
