How to loop a midi note in fruity loops piano roll?

Sorry if this is an idiot's question, I really did try to search for the answer, I may have been using the wrong search terms though.

I want to loop a MIDI note in the fruity loops piano roll. All I can get it to do now is play the note, then return to the start of the loop (while at the same time releasing the note for a split second), and then start playing the note again. I would like the loop to be continuous, so it just keeps holding down the note. Is this possible?

Midi is just messages, so each time this note plays it will tell the computer to stop playing after it goes back to the begining( an OFF message) then it will play it again at the start.(triggers a ON message)

In order to keep the note going you would have to make the note as long as you want it to last in a instrument with large amount of sustain.

well, just re-size the note a few bars until you want it to release. you just can't re-size it infinitely, if you know what i mean.

or, mess around with the envelopes like that guy just said - try the release setting too, not only sustain

Thanks, that sounds like it will work. I didn't really just want to loop a note over and over again, I wanted to overlap two bass notes, like this (consecutive instances of the same note means the key is being held):

code:
start loop( CCCCCCCCC CCCCCCCC AAAAA AAAAAAAAAA AAAAA ) end loop

And I couldn't see how to do that in fruity without joining the start and end A notes into one continuous signal. I think part of the problem is that fruity (to my knowledge) won't let you edit the piano roll for the entire song, like reason does, for example. By piano roll I mean the sequencer window in reason, if you're not familiar with fruityloops.

Does cubase/logic/sonar let you edit the sequence of the whole song at once? I am reluctant to try a new program, because I really like the step sequencer in fruity loops, but there are some things about it that piss me off as well. And I have already tried reason a whole bunch of times, but I don't like the interface or lack of vsti support.

Thanks again for the suggestions, I think they will accomplish exactly what I wanted to do, it just that not being able to edit the whole midi sequence at once bothers me a little.

edit: I just realized that fruity loops can be used as a vsti plugin. So I guess I'll give cubase a try.

Just write your score into the piano roll in an empty pattern, then just add the pattern into the playlist as many times as you want. Its EASIER than reason.

You're right, it worked exactly as I wanted, and was easier than adjusting the attack/decay settings. All I did was write a long A note to one pattern, and a long C note to the next, under the same channel. Then put one after the other in the playlist, overlapping them slightly. After that I copied and pasted for as long I wanted it.

Or I could just not use slightly overlapping notes for the entire song. I may end up not using them anyway, I was just curious on how to do it.

I'm still thinking of using it in conjunction with another sequencer though, because the "slide" function in the piano roll does not seem to work with any of the VSTi software synths I have tried - only with the built in synths. Plus I would like to find out what makes people say cubase and logic are so powerful.
