I started DJing on my highschool's radio station last year, and it was hella fun.
I had to play all different genres of course (top40, rock, hiphop..), but I did manage to squeeze in alotta trance, so it made it all better . That's mostly b/c there were alotta different Djs who I rotated with.. and i was one of few who played any dance music, so the genre plays were fairly balanced out. It was awesome that other people happened to like the trance i played too
DJ_Shockwav made a very good point with the "you will like everything and anything that is capable of going out on the air..." because it's true.. when you are infront of an audience w/some who only want thier kinda music- you better start learning about thier music & getting into it as well. Unfortunately you can NOT expect them all to like your fav music (trance, in this case) because some will just be too ignorant/judgemental to get into it... and that can create a bad mood amongst crowds like that.
Im still joining the radio again this year... i really enjoyed it & learned a few things 'bout playin' for a more mainstream audience, but i'll damn well continue to play my trance mixes!
