hit the print screen button (to the right of F12 on most keyboards) and it will copy your screen to the clipboard... then you have to open some kind of imaging program like paint and paste it... that's all, =P

If its an avi/mpeg you can use VirtualDub to view the video and then use HyperSnap to snag it.. (or whatever program u have - some of them won't work with Windows Media Player due to the codec used and how its displayed on the screen)

If it is a Windows Media/Real Player/Quicktime file then you'll have better luck with SnatchIt

alt + printscreen does just the current window

there are software apps that make it even easier, where you can make your own crops and not have to deal with photoshop, but i can't think of their names atm

SnagIt will solve all of your problems. You can choose whether you want to capture the sreen, active window, rectangular area, or use a crosshair to outline the area you want to capture, and also choose the output type - bmp, gif, jpg, and many other options.
