Ok this is one of the biggest things that has been pissing me off as of late. Like almost all of you I download....a LOT (i also buy obscene amounts of records )
So anyway whats up with everyone naming their tracks messed up? Like heres a random exampls from my download folder:
Ok so im sure all the little letter codes mean somthing so can anyone enlighten me as to the meaning of the following letter that follow tons of mp3's:
pow
va
apc
mns
I have my tracks organized by name and nothing else. How do you all organize your tracks? anyway thats my rant. Back to renaming 8 gigs of music

I'm meticulous when i comes to tagging and naming my mp3s. But the reason ppl don't do it is because most are lazy or feel it's a waste of time. The underline character instead of spaces in file name is usually to web server limitations (unix) or CD format choosen doesn't allow spaces in the file name. If its properly tagged the file name isnt that important since a mp3 player software use tag for the display and organization of ur music.
pow = Prisoner Of War
va = abreviation for the state of Virginia
apc = Armored Personnel Carrier
mns = you probably mean MSN (microsoft network)

Those abbreviations on the end are the name of the ripping group.
The underscores are there because many programs that do transer (IRC, a lot of Servers and so forth) don't like spaces.
It's actually good to look for tracks titled like that, because it usually means it is ripped from the release version, at at least 192 kb. Which is good.
02 is the track number on the vinyl/CD/release. Followed by artist name, song name, remix, featuruing, etc. Tronik is the name of the ripping group. This one is somewhat strange in that it has parenthesis. Most just use two underscores.
Hope that helped de-newbify you guys a bit.

god, what pisses me off are stupid, misspelled, and ugly idv3 tags that you CAN'T change unless you reencode...

Not until you change your avatar.
He looks like he just farted and doesn't want anyone to know it was him.
Firstly, it's generally not a good idea to post release group names on ta, secondly, why the hell do ripping groups use outdated ID tags that always cut off before the song name is fully entered/shown?

they are just names. Not like you can get in trouble for mentioning them, or else any newspaper reporting on them would be in trouble.
and I don't get what your saying in the second part. All mine are ID'd fine.
and these are good ones to grab if you are grabbing songs mainly because there are scene standards. .

Actually, it's bsically a rule that you don't mention group names, i've seen threads closed because of it before.
With the ID tag thing, i'm not talking about the file names, i'm talking about the ID tagsd embedded in the files.
EG:
Artist: Push
Song: Strange World (Airwav
And there it ends, the full song name therefore isn't displayed in winamp/wmp etc. In short, it's because of the ID tag format they're using, it only allows a certain amount of characters. If they simply used a different type, I wouldn't have to spend ages re-naming all my id tags.

it all makes sense now.
and I checked mine and they do use ID3v1 tags and not ID3v2.
