Does anyone own the novation v station?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here owns the novation v station? If so, how do you like it and would you recommend it being a good piece of equipment to have for making progressive trance music?

I already own a JP8080, will the novation v station make a good add on?

Thanks,
Mike

I tried it and didn't like it, all the presets are terrible, the filters are very cold, and it has a very limited range of sounds. If you've already got a JP there's no reason to buy it.

Indeed, very cold effect, I tested it on a big convention in Germany where they present all that stuff. I was rather disappointed, but I think with a little bit of tweaking everything can sound good ... But if you have the JP8080, there is no reason for you to buy it, absolutely not imo.

Thanks for the feedback.. If I already own a JP8080 would it make sense to get a Virus C as well? I hear those are good too. Or will the JP8080 handle that stuff too?

Thanks,
Mike

I use the V-Station for atleast 70% of my synth work, its ridiculously good. Yes the presets are standard but that doesn't mean anything as far as the synth's capabilities go. I've done sounds ranging from Armin, Airwave, Solarstone (the guitar), Push, Hiver & Hammer, Above & Beyond, Chicane, 4 Strings, Thrillseekers, etc. If you can't push the synth to its capabilities then perhaps its not for you.

As for the filter being cold, I can't say I agree. The filter is very good, practically identical to the K-Station, which is just a tad smoother.

Don't listen to anyones judgements, make your own, try the synth, tweak around, spend a few days, and most definitely do not judge it based on the presets.

yeah I should have said that i really just tested it at that convention thingy, so I have no real knowledge of it, sorry for that. But the stuff I heared was cold, and it seemed as if the actual sounds you could make with it were limited. But apparently I'm wrong..

DC- Could you upload some small samples of the sounds created by ONLY that v-station ? I'm very interested in what you can get out of it !

Cheers !

Also, what do you all mean by "cold" when refering to synths?

Thanks
-Mike

1. Cold means that the opposite of warm Warm filters describe a nice, smooth and analogue sound whereas cold filters are very digital, straightforward, and lacking in depth.

2. I more than just tested it, I tried it for about a week (pro 53 took me a few days to get good sounds out of) and all the sounds that came out of it were SoftSynth sounding. DC-: could you post some examples of a V-Station sound you've gotten? Try and show the filters too. If you can get decent sounds out of it, more power to you, I just think there are better synths that are easier to work with.

Hey, well I own a v-station, and i think it's great. You can make some really cool sounds with it. Check out this link and download the mp3 demo of the sounds for v-staion that thease guys sell. I think they are pretty cool. I myself got some sounds from them for my Yamaha an1x plug in board in my cs6x, and It felt like I bought new synth. And about Virus.. Well I highly recomend it if you have the money..It's really cool synth with tons of sounds and not to mention the synthesis capabilities. It is little expensive, but the desktop version "c" is about a grand cheaper than the full keyboard version.

her's the link for v-station sounds..

Here's a small clip of a track I did with Airbase, all synthwork is V-Station, except that little stringy sound at the end. I couldn't be arsed making patch samples for someone who probably doesn't care. I know what the potential of this synth is, I do not need to prove it to anybody else
