Virus Rack XL vs Virus KC

What's the difference between the both of them ? I mean the price difference is HUGE, if there's no difference ion sound whatsoever, only in NO KEYBOARD, I'm getting that + another synth for 700 or so, that should be possible..

Can somebody give me really good information about this, that I actually understand ?

I searched google a while back, and now by the other thread about midi controllers I checked back for maybe some more info. But the thing is, they give SO much information ,that i actually don't see what is exactly different, you know what I mean ?

I have a roland E series keyboard (yeah ) so I think I can use that as the actual keyboard for that rack or something. Please let me know. Also is the desktop any different from the KC except for no keys on it ? And again can I control this with a Roland E series (Roland E-68 Inteligent Keyboard)) ?

THANKS !

Btw : Any suggestions for other good synths I could get for maybe that extra 700Euro that I'd save up, let me hear your voice ! Or some great sample collection etc...

Cheers !

Okay, well as far as the engine goes, it is exactly the same. The Rack XL and the Virus C/KC have the the same DSP and all that. Only the Virus Rack has less power (in simple terms).

The problem with the racks that I see, from a trance perspective, is that you have very limited control over the sound manipulation process. You don't get all the dial and buttons on the XL that you get on the C and KC. If you plan to work from presets and don't have a lot of room, then fine, the rack XL is a good choice, but if you want to tweak those dials and make your own sounds, then I don't think it is the best choice. You would be better off getting the Virus C.

Alright man, so I'll go for a Virus C. You sure I don't need the KC btw ? I definately could control a groovebox (303) with my keyboard, so I'm guessing I can control that C too ?

Also please, very important, what other synth would you recommend me, something nice to combine it with. Something not as old as the JP series preferably, something that has a bit more functions or different sound, for progressive/techno use maybe, and of course Trance I should have about 2000Euro to spend in total at the end. Also I need to spend some cash on a desent midi input for the synth. I'm thinking about getting me a terratec or something in that genre for about 300Euro max..

Thanks !

Yes, you can control the Virus C with an external controller like you currently do with your mc-303.

As far as another synth, I would recommend that you learn the Virus first. It might take a while to get to grips with things like the modulation matrix and LFO assign and all that. Its a bit harder than using a soft synth cos you can't see everything at once.

I mainly use the Virus and ABL which is a great synth if you're into acid.

I'm taking a month off to learn the new stuff I get then, so I think I could manage two ;D

i'll check out that synth for the acid stuff. But maybe some other stuff that I'm missing that is muuuch better in hardware then in software. The top of my hat here .. effects and such, just guessing around, but something that really stands out, and beats the software by a mile or ten. I'll check out some of the big producer's studios. I hope to find some info on Paul oakenfold's studio, cause that dude makes the craziest sounds ever. Soundtrack from Swordfish was omg
