M5G: Worth it?

I might finally get some decks soon and I was wondering if the M5G is worth the extra $150+ over the m3d/mk2. What are the real differences between the two?

the m5g gives you a +-16% on the pitch controlls, instead of the +-8% on the m3d and mk2. thats the most obvious difference. i think its also supposed to have a better tone arm and a higher torque motor, but i cant tell a difference. most of the time you dont need to go past 8%. so id say start with the mk2 or m3d. my first decks were the m3ds and i absolutly love them and i am glad i didnt spend the extra $$$ for the m5gs.

Are you going for looks here? Come on, stop being childish - If you really like the way it looks, just buy the Blue LED kit and install it in a pair of 1200 B's or 1210's.

A pair of M5G's would cost you around $1000-1100, I got a pair of second hand Technics 1210 mk2's for $650 total (they were bought seperately) - with that extra 400 bucks you could get appr. 30-35 records, or even better, you could afford a pretty decent mixer.

well if you need to be able to switch between +-8 ans +-16, then these would be a god send.... but if you dont NEED to switch, then they r a waste of $$$. (as you could just as easily mod mk2 or mk3s to be around a +-16... but you cant switch back and forth)

and as previously mentioned... most of the time you dont even need to go higher or lower than 8% anyway....

and then there's the +/- 0% click that's not there on the M5G's. That's also modifyable on the MKII, but unfortunately I'm not an engineer. The bottom line is, I don't have the money for a M5G either way so I'll just go with MKII's

the m3ds do not have the notch at 0 like the mk2. instead they have a pitch reset button, so no matter where the slider is, hit the button and the pitch goes back to 0.

somebody correst me if im wrong (and i may be) but i think they stopped making the m3d when the mk5 came out. mk5 is pretty much the same as m3d. m5g is the one with the +-16% on the pitch.

supposibly the mk5 tonearm has been "redesigned" to reduce skipping.

Dunno. My M3D doesnt exactly have a skipping problem, even when scratching. and if q-bert can do what he does in an MK2...

who needs it? waste of money.

IMHO, get yourself a good used set of M3Ds, save a bunch of dough, and buy the phattest mixer you can get.
