no, a lot of vinyls are released with the title track at 45 RPM on the A Side, and then two remixes/acapellas/lock grooves/etc on the B side at 33.

yeah, it's very common. i would say that about a third of my record collection has 33.3 on one side and 45 on the other.

Often depends on how many songs they intended on putting on the side. The interesting thing is that vinyl that plays at 45 has better quality sound than a 33.

33s also seem to be easier to deal with when DJing as you require less input to make a tempo change.

33s are more desired by turntablists as the control of the sound is greater and you can create higher pitches.

a little thought when pressing goes a long way....

As a purely random example (being the first that comes to mind), I have the chemical bros remix of kylie-slow on (yellow) vinyl...... which is pressed at 45rpm
its too slow (im sure thats deliberate irony)- and sounds best at +8....a little thought would have had it pressed at 33...

Also ive noticed some of the promos ive been sent are pressed at different speeds to the commercial release... cosmic gate- fire wire being the first example that springs to mind


to be honest ive never noticed which speed seems to be the more common.....

There used to be a trend in the late 80's early 90's where everything that was made in the UK was 45 and the rest of the world 33.

definitly totally normal, i actually think that i have more controll over a record at 45 rpm. i fid it a little more difficult to adjust the speed of a record that is goin 33. but maybe that is just me.

I thought it a bit strange that the original mix would have pitched down the vocals so much that they no longer bore any resemblance to a woman.

33s were albums

and 45s were 7 inch singles

Time for a little history note here: the reason behind 33's and 45's are that the faster the record is spining the less the smaller problems in the vinil show up since the record needle isint on them as long, thus 45's best quality but less space 33's more space for music but lower quality enjoy

that's kinda funny, i find it easier to mix 33's. To each their own.

ive noticed that when mixing 45s, you have more control, because the same increment on the pitch slider changes the pitch of the song less than if it were on a 33. that way, you can get more accurate beatmatched songs.
