Delay in VST sound after MIDI input using Cubase, Please help me.

Hey guys. I'm very new to music production, so please bear with me...

I just picked up a M-Audio Radium49 for inputting my MIDI signals using Cubase. I am finding that my VST sounds are coming in delayed after I hit the keys in the keyboard.

The funny thing is, I see a (red) bar graph showing my inputs in Cubase, and that looks to be instanteous from when I am hitting the keys, but the sound is coming out delayed. This is true even for my drum VST such as Battery.

When I hit a key, my sound comes out about 100-200ms later. It is killing me and making my recording screw up all over the place on timing.

Is there some kind of setting that I am missing?

Thanks for the help in advance.

You'll need a soundcard that supports ASIO 2 drivers..
Buy something M-Audio.. The 24/96 is good for starters.

EDIT: Or try connecting it using USB if you are using midi..

use the Asio Full Duplex Driver in Cubase, it ships with Cubase, it will give u the best results, if u dont have a soundcard ASIO.

I have a SB Live! soundcard and and I am using the USB input.

Its weird because I can see an input signal registering in Cubase without a delay. The delay is in the sound from the VSTs. As I said, it's even delayed with drum VSTs that have a 0 delay frequency output.

My computer is a 3.2 P4 with 512MB of RAM. I could use more RAM, but I don't think its the issue.

FrancoR, I'll take a look at your link and hopefully it solves my problem.

Hi there!

It's always kind of embarassing if users of a 700€ sequencer environment twiddle around with a 20€ piece of hardware. When you spend a little more money on your soundcard you can get a decent sound with freeware-proggs. but with sblive you can get nothing but s**t out of your "DAW" even with cubase.

Anyway I also had a SBlive once in an old secondary machine that was placed at my parents house so that I could at least layout some beats when I went there for hollidays (I'm a student). It worked quite well with the alternative "KX-drivers" and OrionPlatinum (which I like for just creating small phrazes and basslines popping to my mind). They support asio and you could get a quite acceptable latency. But the sound will still be s**t. Give it a try at http://kxproject.lugosoft.com
So next time you spend so much money, save some bugs for a semi-professional soundcard before you buy Cubase SX 4 (anyway it's amazing how many "cubase users" spring up like mushrooms in the different forums in the last few weeks since...)

cheers
