No Digital, Powercore is a card, with 4 dsp chips. It comes with high quality effects, like reverb , compressors, etc...It gives u 2.8 ghz of cpu power not including your own pcs cpu power. But u can only run the effects that it comes with, but itsa great cause it wont eat up any cpu and the effects are top notch. now with the virus vst for the powercore, u can run the virus vst if you have a powercore card. the dream is reality

The only thing i am warried about is the delay of the plugins that run on the powercore. I am considering the firewire version, and i'm gonna go to the store sometimes next week to see how that unit works in sx.. I seen it hooked up at the store a week ago when i was picking up a new soundcard, but didn't get a chance to check it out due to having not enought time.. But after reading reviews some people complain that after using like fiew effects they max out the card.. So i wonder how would the virus plugin respond. It does sound nice to have a virus on as a vst synth, and considering it would take all the patches that the real unit takes, it would rock. I also wonder how the sound would be. Since it's gonna be dependent on your sound card, there will be no virus hardware that comes when you get the hardware unit. And how about say sending another synth thrue the virus to to apply the virus effects. A lot of people send their other synths thrue virus to get that crispy sound that the virus is capable to produce. It has to do with the hardware.. So i wonder if you'll miss out on something.. And i know most of the top end software has the delay compensation that should make the power core run alright. yet some pople complain on forums, and some magazine reviews really underline the delay that can be pain in the ass.. If i see a virus running in sx 2 with minimal latency, say 6-12 millisec that wuld be wicked. Cause the card itself has some other plugins that are really wicked, and it would be very uselful, as a virus : ) and as the extra dsp power.. plus the pci version went down in price since they came out with the firevire version.. SO ya i would defieneatly get this, but only after seeing a virus run on it.. Cause if it wasn't for a virus for that card i would rather get the Uad, since it has better, compression, and mastering effects, than the powercore.. Powercore has a nice reverb though : ).

Yah, I'm a little wary of the Powercore and UAD based on the limited information I've culled from various reviews. Latency seems to be a bit of a problem. And personally, one of the alluring features of the real Virus is it's hands-on tweakability.

But I am excited about the new Powercore. Let's hope the reviews are good.

I'm also considering a Powercore Firewire, but I don't have the money for it now, maybe within a few months.

I read much about it on forums and the FX plug-ins usually don't have much latency. I expect the Virus VSTi not to have much latency, but you can always fix that within Cubase SX by setting the Delay (in the midi properties under volume and pan) to the amount of latency, so you don't experience any latency at all.

Note that the Virus VSTi is a port from the Indigo TDM plugin, so it's a Virus B engine, not a Virus C.
