Posting your work in this forum

I've read in a few places on this forum that you blow your chances for getting a label release if you post your work on here (Or anywhere on the net for that matter). Just wanted to know if it's true or not, and if so, how it works.

I'm definitely not going into producing for money, I'd just like to own a 12" circular piece of plastic with my name on it sometime.

(Here we go again)

Consider everything posted here a demo version. IF you get signed you can improve it and everyone's happy.

Personally I say let's not be obsessed about labels and enjoy the music, that's what we're all here for.

I'm not obsessed with labels, as I said I'd like to get a 12" piece of plastic with my name on it sometime, but if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen.

And I'm not saying I'm talented enough to get signed, just something I'd like to keep in mind for the future.

So posting a demo version will still let you get a release?

That was touching, Mr Mystery, but why didn't you just give him some useful information?

Tranc3, if you have a track that you feel is release worthy, never post a hi quality sample of it on the internet (or in this forum). That's why you'll notice a lot of stuff in here is either 96 or 128 kbs mp3s or even just a couple min clip of the track.
If you release a high quality version on the net, everyone can burn it to CD and play it out and the label can lose money..etc etc.

Remember, labels aren't just looking for tracks, they're looking for talent too. If you posted a killer song on the net, they might say we don't want to use it (for that reason)...but we'd like to hear something else you can do. So yes, if you post a 'sample' clip, you can still get released - stay away from full length 192 clips though if you really really like the tune.

Hope this helps.

Ahh ok yeah that was exactly what I was looking for, basically the reasoning behind the common perception on posting samples. Thanks

If you have a top-notch track I doubt a record company's gonna back down because 10 TA's have already heard it....
