Well...

Last night at Surface in Ottawa, I was expecting to do some chin stroking, in anticipation of the type of set I expected from Richie.. promoting his Closer album and all.. but boy did he surprise me!

he was chillin' before his set in the club, walking around unnoticed, looking like he shares the same stylist as Sven Vath.. hehe, I talked to him for a bit about his set in Toronto, which he actually said was one of his favourites in the last 5 years or so (!!) and that he was looking forward to his gig in Montreal tonight with Mateo.
I told him I saw Lieb the other night and his eyes lit up a bit.. heh
clearly knows he's da shit..

anyway, I was expecting an ultra minimal experimental set, but from the very first track he dropped it was pretty groovin', minimal, but easy to get into.. I danced the whole time, there were no long breakdowns with obscure experimental noises or anything.. thankfully.. because I'd go to Mutek Festival for that, not a regular club night. The place was packed, as expected.. I didn't recognize any tracks, but I didn't expect to anyway. I left the club at 5:30, and he was still on (remember.. this is Ottawa.. headliners come on at 1-2, not 4.. hehe). Overall.. good night seemed to be had by all! Very relieved the type of set he delivered.

his set tonight will be different, Live PA and all.. but I still wish I could check it out.
