Technics 1200s all the way. They are definitly worth the money. If you are on a tighter budget, the most important thing is make sure you get direct drive TTs. NO BELT DRIVES!
As far as mixers go, Vestax, Pioneer, Allen & Heath, and Rane make some of the best stuff.
You will also need needles, and some good headphones. How much were you thinking about spending?

hey
iam selling my package set they are direct drive
you wont be able to tell the dif between Technics and these
thats actually a pretty good deal he has posted there. however, i definitly STRONGLY disagree that you wont be able to tell the difference between those and techs. maybe not at first, but there is a difference. the mixer looks good and you really cant go wrong with the needles he has there. if you bought those ortofons new they would cost you over $200 US, adn right now the bid is $177 for thw whole package.

that is about the budget i had when i bought all my equipment. i ended up with the following:
2x technics 1200 m3d @ $300 each (they dont make these anymore so get the mk2)
1x stanton RM-3s 3ch mixer @ $150 (now the SMX-301)
2x stanton 500-II needles @ $25 each
1x sony MDR-V700 headphones @ $80
that was about 8 months ago. im about to upgrade my needles, and my mixer. the mixer was great to start on, and the needles are ok too, they were cheap, and they worked with the technics headshells.
all in all this setup cost me a little under $900 before tax. now that was because i got a dicount on my TTs and mixer becuase they were floor models, and i got my headphones with my employee discount at work. had i bought it all new in the box, it would have cost me probably around $1200.
hopefully this can give you a starting point to work from when shopping for your equiptment. you might also want to try to get a better mixer and needles, and maybe pick up some good condition used TTs to balence it all out.
good luck!

This is in the US.
In Sweden the cheapest MK2's you can find costs 4995 SEK (aprox. $550). You can find them at www.apparat.se, I ordered my MK2's from there last week - the delivery took only two days so they are really reliable.
Already had headphones, and the rest was ebay'ed, all *slightly* used, so they are practically brand new (one 1200 has some very light scrathcing right by the reset button). The needles that came with the decks were a Stanton 890 SA and a Stanton Trackmaster II.
So, in hindsight I'd do the same thing as I did, eBay is the way...
