How much credit does the original deserve?

Hey,

Just wondering how much credit you think the original of a song deserves when there is an awesome remix out there?

Obviously the remix can't exist without the original, but how much credit does the "inspirational" original really deserve?

It should get a lot of the credit, without the original the remix would never have been made. Remixes usually keep a lot of the same elements of the orginal.

all the credit!

i'm still a firm believer that the majority of the time, the original is the best...

sometimes a remix is better...but the original still deserves 90% of the credit

Word, dude.

This applies to most of the "classics" of chance i think - the original is usually better

I think it depends on the respective quality of each mix. Not all remixes keep a majority of the elements of the original, and not all originals should have been released in the first place.

2 reasonably well-known examples include (respectively):

DJ Tiesto & Junkie XL - Obsession (Frank Biazzi remix)(sp?)

Jaimy & Kenny D - Caught Me Running (DJ Tiesto's Summerbreeze mix)

Agreed, it all depends on the quality of the mix, and the similarity to the original version. On most occations the remix sounds like the original, but you can't give Vengaboys much credit for Airscape's Kiss remix, can you?

although some remixes are better than the originals, the original gets the credit. just like you said, there would be no remix w/o the original.
