an interesting holywood retrospective
Well, the local TV station here just showed Rambo 3, and I must say it's a fascinating representation of how the US sided with the afghani mujahedin at the time. So, for those who don't know the story, here it goes:
Rambo's friend tried to sell some stinger missiles to the mujahedin to help them fight their brutal soviet opressor. But the russians caught him, so Rambo goes in there to get him out. On his way, he gets into a mujahedin village, where he is fascinated by the strength, compassion, and determination of the mujahedin peasants. All the village children carry machine guns with them, and Rambo is fascinated by the fact that even the village children are willing to stand up for what's right and to fight against the evil in the world. He is also horrified to learn that soviet soldiers are killing those children in order to prevent them from becoming full grown mujahedins. But this will turn into a soviet Vietnam, and it is obvious that sooner or later the suffering mujahedin will have their free country which will ensure their population will finally live in peace and safety...
Heh, interesting how the tables are turned now. I guess the soviet soldiers missed out on a few young mujahedins like Bin Laden & co. But the biggest thing is that Rambo never realized he was dealing with horrible wife-beating anti-human rights terrorists! I guess that movie won't be shown on the US TV anytime soon!
