It was 2001 when those unmistakable words from mission control heralded the arrival of Pole Folder within the music scene, as 'Apollo Vibes' appeared on Bedrock Records, marking the start of a long term partnership with the label, which has since given us another huge single in the form of 'Dust' and also another featuring the tracks 'Waxxx' and 'Enter The Rhythm'.
It's on 'Enter The Rhythm' that we were introduced to the voice of Sandra Ferretti. A writer, composer and singer who resides in Belgium, her musical influences range from the Brit Pop she experienced whilst studying Political Sciences in Manchester, England, a place famously known for it's musical heritage, and also more alternative sounds, in addition to reggae, rock and electronica. Her multi cultural origin and ability to speak and sing fluently in English, French and Italian is a further testament to the talent and ability this wonderful woman has, and when Benoit Franquet was looking for a vocalist, Sandra answered the call, starting a friendship that began with the very same track.
Now, as the world waits for the release of Pole Folder's debut artist album later this year on Bedrock Records, a project that Sandra has been heavily involved in, guesting on several of the tracks, a new collaboration between herself and Pole Folder emerges on Mo-Do Records, as 'Protected' will be released early this summer.
Originally recorded several months ago, the track has gained a cult following around the clubs of Belgium, with DJ Marko Longin, a resident at Belgium's famous club La Rocca playing it almost every week. When the track was heard by M.A.S. Collective's Sandro Russo, he immediately signed the track for release, and this two disc package started to take shape.
Disc One features the 'Original Mix', a minimalist journey through progressive house, with haunting strings and an ethereal full vocal provided by Sandra Ferretti. It's an indication of Pole Folder's progression as a producer, and a hint at what to expect on his forthcoming long player. On the b-side, New York's 'Madoka' delivers a solid groove led 4/4 interpretation that is a slight departure from what you might expect, but still has a fine sprinkling of that big room sound he is famed for.
Disc Two is headed by M.A.S. Collective's 'Black Curtain Dub'. Big beats, melodies and a killer bassline form the heart of this atmospheric dub interpretation that fans of John Digweed will love, as this highly regarded duo produce a stunning mix aimed squarely at the dancefloor. The final rerub comes from 'Fretwell' who's seminal work on the single 'Dust' meant he was hand picked to add his own take on the track. Crisp beats and intricate layers of sound grace this dreamy and epic version of 'Protected', capturing both the mood and emotion of the original and placing them in centre of a tough and gritty progressive breaks opus.
'Protected' is Pole Folder like you've never heard him before, a single that has all the hallmarks of a future classic, and another quality release from the highly respected Italian label Mo-Do Records.
