Mod Wheel

I understand what this thing does. You assign it to some parameter, and it can change it like the pitch bend wheel does to pitch.

My question is: Is this modwheel part of most VSTis or is it part of the sequencer?

Example: I have the Albino and V-Station. Both have lots of presets/options involving mod wheel. However, I can't find the mod wheel anywhere in either FL or the synth itself. Where is this fabled wheel thingy?

I tried forum search but couldn't find anything.

It's normally part of the keyboard that comes with synths. Most keyboard midi controllers usually have both a pitchbend wheel, and a modulation wheel.
That's about the hardware part.

Now, if you don't have a modulation wheel in itself, there is still hope
With MIDI, most controllers can have a control number assigned (the famous midi CC's). The problem is, the numbering of those cc's is not always the same, depending on the manufacturers. But luckily, for some parameters, the CC's stay the same. For modulation, it's usually midi CC 1. So if you have something that can be assigned to controllers (like a potentiometer), you can use that to control modulation.

If you have nothing at all to control it hands on, you can still do it in your sequencer manually. Usually using one of the midi editors (for example in Cubase you can use the lowest lane in the key editor), you can select which controller you can edit. And modulation is one of them. That way you can draw sort of a graphic that represent the value of the controller over time. It's probably possible controlling it in Fruity also, but it has been such a long time I had this program, I can't say exactly where to find it.

yeah i know about editing events - and you can do that with settings on say a 3osc easily, but i don't know how to record things using event editor and VSTS, or to edit things without right clicking on them...

Any more advice?

If you want to map your mod wheel to control for example filter cutoff or something, use the transformer function in cubase. can map to anything within the synth by using NRPNs and RPNs ( not just control changes)

Yeah, that would be great, except that I don't have Cubase

Anyone know about this for Fruity?

Dont have Fruity but by default ModWheel affects modulation, just like say a pan knob affects how your sounds are panned. If you know how to adjust pan or volume or something like it then you can use the same function to change modulation

Do you mean the transform function in the logical editor? And what are NRPNs and RPNs? Damn me and my ignorance .
