Bringing in a mix

Some questions for you DJ's. Once you've got the two songs lined up together, do you bring in the second song slowly/softly with the bass cut out a little? Do you bring it on full volume on beat one with full bass? How do you actually transition from one to another. I've been playing around with a few different ideas, they don't sound bad, but I'd like to here what other's have tried/done. Do you ever play the two records with the Xfade centered without any EQ cutting? Do you get the general idea of my question?
