Big Ears Christian Rusch - Work In Progress

Hi all,

Though I'd finally become a proper TA member by posting my very first self-promotional thread; atleast I can't remember starting any such topics before. Anyhoo, here're three tracks I've written or started writing during the past few weeks.

» http://www.raynak.com/~rusch/music/rh_export_01.mp3
» http://www.raynak.com/~rusch/music/ij_export_01.mp3

All three are instrumental versions, although one or two might end up becoming vocal tracks. Also, the Gregorian monks have to be edited out of ij_export_01.mp3, however I still consider them all fairly decent indications of what I'm working with nowadays; aside from the regular trance remixes and such. Feedback and in particular constructive critisism is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
// Christian

ijexport01 (Inner Journey)

nice melody and build-up, although i didnt really like the dark 'voice' in the start

rhexport01

different from the first bu i really like it, great start but wanna hear what's its going 2

tytexport01 (Take your Time)

I recognize the sound at 0:40, nice buildup, really like the guitar part at 5:49

Watch out the tytexport01 is a full song, maybe somebody from the a releasegroup will pick up and share it, it has happened to other producers 2; just a warning

Cheers mate. I've put TYT online at beatmaka.com though, so no worries. I contemplated putting a lofi up here instead, but given that it's already out there, I didn't think it'd matter. It's an instrumental mix anyway and it'll never be released anywhere in it's current state; if someone wants to release it they'll have to help me fulfill my vision first and find me a good female vocalist that I can use for it.

Yupp, vocals have got to be removed from ij and I personally want to rewrite the whole "melody" in rh. Tyt I'm quite content with, but like I said, I think it needs vocals to make it even more distinct in it's style and message. Damn you're fast at replying btw, you constantly prowl these forums?

Downloading now

Listening to tytexport01

That pad at the start is awesome, nice an 'angelic', i've never been able to get that lush choir kind of pad. Nice arp coming in now, really enjoyable percs as well, nice minimal snares/hats. That piano is lovley as well

If i notice anything terrible after the full track is finished downloading, i'll tell you heh.

I can really imagine this being amazing with some soft female vocals over the top, some nice subtle ooohs and ahhhhhs would go down well imo.

In shoty; fantastic track with some mind bloqing melodies, thanks for sharing this with us

Oh how you really want to know, don't you... Well I won't tell...

Nah, actually it's called Returning Home. I wanted to try and create some almost glorifying and ascending feeling of winding down and coming towards the end of the album, so perhaps somewhat of an outro.

Ah, Take Your Time is so good. I can definitely see some nice vocals laid over this. Maybe just some like in Dream Traveller - Structure.

You are becoming a master of chill out. Look forward to hearing final versions.

ahhh TYT is great.. can SO imagine you laying down some smooooooooth vocals over the top.. love the arp and the pads are just beautiful. so angelic like someone else mentioned.

3:30 onwards is absolutely amazing..

like omegasox said, youre becoming a master of chillout =) is your tune "Signed Sealed Delivered" released anyway????

[edit]

wasnt a fan of "returning home".. i think it was something about the actual synths used.. percussion work was nice and different which i liked.. cant quite put my finger on it.. maybe just not my style? hehe

"inner journey" this is beautiful too.. i prefer "take your time" but when the pianos come in in this one, its absolutely beautiful..

love ur work, mate =)

Omegasox: Thank you very much kind sir. Unfortunately haven't heard the tune you mentioned, but I'll check it out.

Etherium: Well, there are a few singers whom I wouldn't mind working with, question is would they consider working with me? For some reason I think Sarah McLachlan might turn me down. Nah, but I've got a pretty good idea of what I want the vocalist's voice to sound like, so I'll just have to find someone that fits the idea.

Phorte: Glad you like it, the crescendo at 3:25 is probably one of my favourite parts in the track, aswell as that more or less same situation at 3:52. I'm a sucked for long reverb tails. :P

Signed Sealed & Delivered has unfortunately not yet been released - basically just because Can and I have been too lazy come time to try to sell it. We will probably rework it ever so slightly first though as there are some technical aspects to it that don't quite work as well as they could/should. Also, we need to finish up the other break-beat track with started to act as it's b-side.

As for Returning Home, I know what you mean. It seems to be one of those tracks you either love or hate, or rather, the lead seems to be of that nature. Some say it sounds of General MIDI and some say they absolutely love it, but I too feel that the lead melody needs rewriting - note wise - but also that the lead needs phattening up in some way. I'm quite fond of the track's style though, quite different from anything I've done before, even counting the experimental stuff.

Inner Journey is the last track I started - have not really put any time into it yet - so yes I definately feel that it lacks alot of the quality that TYT has and I think it shows quite clearly that alot more thought has gone into TYT than that which has gone into IJ; soon to be fixed though I hope.

dj-sean: Cheers mate!

Anyhoo, thank you ALL for your feedback, both the good and the bad; I need it all, actually mainly the bad so I can improve that which you all dislike or like less. Had a long night last night - last minute gig - so I'm going to go have "breakfast" and then go semi-sleep infront of the TV.
