Wrong, trance began in very late 70's with a german group who began expirimenting with synthesizers and the style of music emerged, then it mixed with the club culture of detroit and US with the small packed meat markets blaring house, detroit techno and eventually trance, back then trance was as pure as it could be amazing music truly, i would give so much to have been a part of the scene, as the EDM scene progressed in the background of the 80's save as a spawn of disco with higher bpm as the years went on, for example high energy (now adays called electro) was probably 130 bpm max averaging around 125 haha, any was as the genres evolved and began to gain their own distinct sounds trance branched off, i believe mid 80's was its first recognition as a distinct genre and early 90's was its hayday. after about 01 it was on its decline as far as quality emergence from the genre, but as much music goes had its most popularity as well, and thats when half you kids started listening :P 90 - 96 was a great period for the genre it was then that all the genres we have presently were founded, today the original trance sound that was around in the begining is found more in the goa/psy trance area, which is where i can be found jolz, As with all big genres you have to search harder for quality releases, and with the emergence of so much more progressive there is a vast gray area as to whether progressive is now a stand alone genre, or if there is sub genres of every mega genre IE prog house, prog trance, prog breaks (nu breaks) and even progressive techno is beginig to appear in descriptions, and until it is decided how progressive is to be labled there is much gray area on what is progressive trance and progressive house haha, pain in the ass genres. check Ishkur dot com, i think he has some info on it, i believe i read some there, i totally forgot the name of that german group but ish's music guide is layed out chronologically and dont take it to heart
