I would like to know how to do a simple stutter effect like the one shown in the sample below, preferably using a simple wav editor if possible.

Its just the note (synth) being played 4 times quickly, in production terms its just a quanitze of 1/16.

Thats some fast shit by the way hehehehe.

I think doing this in a WAV editor would be tough.

But I don't know how to do it in anything so I bet this helped you a lot.

or a veryyyy fast gate of the synth...but i doubt that.

This is very easy to do. It might be better to do it midi wise as you can play around with it better. just take the note u want to repeat and repeat it a few times but very close together and use 16th notes. Wave editor wise well it's a little mroe complicated but not hard. I would suggest using cubase as u can cut and past non-destructively. all you do is the same thing as the midi solution. cut the note u want and paste it a few times. make sure that every note is follwing the time siginture though...thats why i say it would be better to do in cubase. to make it simple just use midi.

Ahh, the good old stutter edit. Well apart from developing you own software to let you do it (as B.T. has done) you can chop up stuff yourself. If you're using something like Logic, you can zoom in and make tiny cuts/gaps in the audio. It's very time consuming but if done right the "stutter edit" effect can be quite lovely. You can also experiment with adding effects and automation to your freshly cut up audio chunks. There was a VST plug-in that was out that simulated the stutter edit effect realtime on an audio track, but I forget the name of it. It's actually not too bad from what I can recall and it would also do beatmatching.

It's possible to sync the on/off rate to your hosts tempo. It's not very accurate though, but you can give it a shot...

You see u need to repeat 1 note not chopping a whole sequence of notes. all u have to do is like me and the other guy said. take a not and slice it...then repeat that slice as many times as u want. and put them closer togther or farther apart depending on what effect you want. Thats the simplist way i can explain it. U shouldn't have to go to the extent of using VST's for this...it's like the easiest thing in the world to do.

Anyway, in a wav editor, all you gotta do is duplicate the part that you want to have the stutter effect, put it side to side in 1/16 or how fast you want it to stutter as many times at it requires to fill in the space until the next beat. In Cubase SX it's easy, since you can quantize sound files also, besides MIDI.

i think there is a transform function in cool edit pro 2... if there isnt, there should be
