The Rave Culture.

Reading a couple reviews about one perfect day the whole rave culture got me thinking.

Quotes like

"i felt like the scene was portrayed in a negative light, and focused on all the negatives."

etc. etc. u get my drift.

Which brings me to my point. What positives are there in the rave culture? If any?

Heres my opinion on the subject, with generalisations and all. To me the rave culture is a stigma on society. Its all based on a false reality.

[15:06] not every1 goes out n gets fucked up when they goto those things

Yes not everyone does, but in my fair estimation minimum 80% do. IMO no matter how you film the rave culture it will be portrayed in a negative light, because its a stigma on society. Its a haven of drug use covering everyones insecurities and troubles.

[15:10] ur forgetting the music, and meeting new ppl etc etc

Minus a few that is all based on a false reality like i said above. Would we be plur if our serontonin levels werent going through the roof?

Maybe im being a pessimistic fuck, and some of the words i have said are harsh but i think no one can be proud of a culture that encourages rampant drug use, be it a culture that encourages peace love unity and respect.

thoughts?

I go out and have a great time regardless of any enhancers.

If somewhere is playing music I don't like I don't enjoy myself, regardless of what I'm drinking/having etc

If I'm out with friends I have a better time regardless than if I'm by myself.

If I see other "ravers" during the week I don't act any different because our "serotonin levels aren't going through the roof". It's just the same, friends are friends. Some of the people I trust the most and are some of the nicest people I've met, I met through "clubbing/raving".

I do believe it is a friendly culture, sure you get whackos but there's whackos in any "group" in society.

And if it's all about drugs.... what % of people at bars/pubs/live bands are drinking generally? And can they enjoy themselves out all night without a drink?

If you look at it in a different light, heavy drinkers are abusing a drug worse than once a month ravers...

Next time you go out somewhere people are drinking, don't have any alcohol or anything for the entire night... see how you enjoy yourself.

next time you go out clubbing or to an event, don't have anything, see whether you enjoy yourself..... I can.

They're enhancers, not replacers for a good time.

I have a belly button

in all seriousness - I agree with Hybrid, without the positive NON drug related aspects of the scene I would have never met him OR probably you for that matter Pauly and would not be as happy going out these days without all of the good and bad and mashed up shit in between

I'd rather a culture that encourages drug use and plur over a lager lout type culture (which certainly prevails over most of Australia).

Why is drug use a negative aspect of the culture? For the most part, I'd suggest it's actually a positive. Or maybe not a positive, but definitely less of a negative than heavy drinking. Even the police have admitted they would prefer a pill crowd than a drinking crowd.

How many fights do you generally see at a club? Very few, and the ones that do occur aren't started by peaking gurners.

Compare that to your average pub. They have those big security blokes for a reason.

well i think im very naive when it comes to the scene, like i know most take "enhancers" but because i dont i think no one does haha i just dont think about it until someone says to me "yeah they were fucked up" and im like "so that explains all the hugs?" etc. etc...

i personally have a great time and havent had anything of that nature since 2000 when i had a very VERY bad expierience, which has mentally scared me... so now i just enjoy drinking......... a;;though a lot of photos of me tell different stories

I believe there is a term for it, which is called "PARANOIA"

but seriously,

I do believe that these sorts of negativity comes from
those who hasn't got a clue about what the scene really is.

Sure, it is the nature of these "raves" that has been conceived
in part as a product of drug experimentation and the musical
instruments involved among them includes one that has failed as
commercial product (TB-303 anyone?)

General public has a hard time accepting that people can have a
good time without the help of substances of any kind, because this
is how the whole entertainment industry was based upon, and the
media helps build the hype that any form of entertainment is
better enjoyed with a little help from a certain friend, be it
only a can of soft drink that can make your blood sugar level
shot thru the roof or the highest quality pharmaceutical grade
MDMA money can buy and will get you PLURed all night long.

But for some of us who got the privilege to experience it first
hand, it is true that you can go and have a good time and not
having your brain cells turned into primordial soup the following
morning.

In the end having a good time is what you make it most of the night
and not the quality of drug or how many pints you had.

muli: tell you're parents it's just a movie. There are vampires and warewolves in Underworld do they go nuts about that as well?

Drugs vs no Drugs, I think loulabell said it best "I have a belly button"

still not one positive, and tachyon what makes u think i never been to an event without taking anything, same goes for the others. And yes tachyon i dont have a clue about the scene.

Yeh ok i can meet new people, but i meet new people by going to the local cafe playing backgammon or chess, or going to my local pub enjoy a pint and watch a game of football. Having been to numerous "raves" its a problem like it or not. Drug use is rampant. Be it recreational or an addiction.

So for all you naive people to come out and say the scene is great cause the music is so good, grow up and look around you. Id say the majority of TA is a minority, in that we can enjoy our music but look at the whole picture and not just yourself.

Who gives a crap about what other people think.

As long as they don't stop any of the raves going ahead i'm happy.

I can enjoy myself with and without any enhancers.

Live and let live.
