9800pro cooling

Im soon gonna buy a ati 128MB 9800pro. Im just wondering how hot it runs stock and should i look into buying aftermarket coolers like the thermaltake giant III? Im planing on overclocking it as well.

Got one here stock in a 2 week old Dell 3.2Ghz P4. It runs great, not had a problem yet. The card utils report the GPU temp at around 55 degrees Celcius which is perfectly fine. I think you'll be fine unless you plan on majorly overclocking it.

i've decided to buy this hightech 9800pro. It has a exhaust blower to blow out the hot air out of the case and comes w/ ramsinks. my coworker just picked one up from newegg for $240 and it seems to work really well and the card seems to be based off of the ati's retail verson. Im probably not gonna overclock off of the bat but i would like to play w/ the clockspeeds at times.

http://www.hightech.com.hk/html/iceq9800_pro.htm

(I got the second fastest 3dmark03 score for radeon 8500, probably won't be listed b/c i updated to catylist 4.3 when i ran this test)
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2236748

specs:
2.4c running at 3.1, 512mb corsair pc3500 running in dual channel, asus p4p800 deluxe, Ati AIW radeon8500, chieftech dragon soho case, antec truepower 430w ps, 40gb system hdd, 160gb storage, 250gb storage, 7200rpm hdds. Sony dw-10 OEM dvd burner w/ modded firmware to dru-500a

a couple of times i've gotten people in our shop that did just that to 9500s trying to make them a 9700, after they did that it wouldn't work anymore. The 9800pro i want does NOT have 256MB Like the xt, i believe the die is .15micron not .13 on the xt, and it doesn't have the thermal diode for the gpu as on the xt. The bios flash only works on a very few handful of cards and revisions. Totally Not Worth the risk of killing a $250 card just for a 5% performance increase.
Just use radlinker and overclock old school style.

yeah your right about the 9600pro to xt. I've read a little about it and that seems like a good upgrade. Considering the recent price drops of 9800pros it's totally worth buying instead of a 9600xt.
