Review: Corsten and Kid Vicious @ Luce (Tue, March 16, 2004)
A big thanx goes to Adam for organizing the TA pre-party meet up and bringing Corsten to the meet up
I’ve arrived to the TA pre-party meet up with Adam and he introduced me to Vlad and other TAs. We chatted for a bit while standing outside the Subeez Café in hopes that Ferry would see us and approach us. Then, Kate and Sean showed up and suggested that we go inside, so we did and not long after that Corsten, Lisa Lashes, and Ronald Vangelderen showed up for the TA pre party meet up.
Corsten is a really friendly individual. Sean struck an interesting conversation about Ferry’s style has evolved over the years. Ferry agreed with Sean about how his new style is very difficult to classify, and it’s a hybrid of different kinds of electronica. Sean asked Corsten what was his favorite club that he spun at so far on his Right of Way tour. To that Corsten replied that it was the Guvernment. The two chatted for over an hour .
Then Adam added how the last time he saw Corsten at Avalon(Boston), Costen’s set was cut short. Ferry replied to that saying that the bouncers were threatening him to finish spinning, and when there are two big guys telling you to end your set you better do as they say or be prepared for the consequences.
While Kid Vicious was spinning I had a chance to talk to Ferry. I’ve asked him what he thought about the Guvernment and Toronto in general. Corsten said that he thought that Toronto was a bit out of touch with nature. Downtown seemed like there was just brick buildings and high rises, and there was hardly any green. Then I asked Ferry whether he had difficulty adjusting to the weather transitions when traveling from a cold part of the world to a hot part. To that Corsten replied that he carried lots of spare clothes for any kinds of weather conditions. I’ve asked Ferry if he has time to sight see in the cities that he plays in. He told me that so far it was difficult for him to do that, and he was just able to go sight seeing in Miami and a few other places for days at a time. I’ve inquired whether he’ll have time to check out North Vancouver and to that he replied that he will not since he will be going to Calgary the next day. His Right of way tour has been like a marathon, going from one city to the next.
Corsten’s set was phenomenal. This was the best $15 I’ve ever spent on a party. He dropped Punk, Rock your body Rock, Right of Way, and Ligya from what I remember. I liked how interacted with the crowed. Before his set he was chilling by the bar as well as in the lounge, and people were approaching him and talking to him. While during the set he would constantly turn to his followers, and trying to please them. Ferry also played an hour extra. His set was supposed to finish at 2:00, but he ended playing at 3:00 .
Luce was a club for people with lots of cash. They charged $5 for coat check! The sounds system was ok, and the visual effects were not very impressive, but Corsten made up for that with his banging set.
Overall, I had tons of fun and I hope that everyone else did as well.
