How Long?

I myself only got seriously addicted to trance this time last year, i have since then got decks (6months after my most memorable and 1st clubbing night with trance for years) and now nearing 150 peice of vinyl.

I have so little history in the music (i was clubbing back in 98-01 but never really paid attention just danced), coupled with a short term memory problem for names, and an interest across several of the trance genres, it seems to result in my mixes lacking in flow (let alone good mixes, all but a few that I knew before even trying to mix them that they would work.) It would appear that having a serious number of years of listening behind you to be highly beneficial.

Therefore:

How long were you listening to tunes before you decided to delve into dj'ing?

I started buying randam dance albums during 2000-2001 when i was about 15 and quite liked them...was mostly the cheesy MOS and judge jules type albums and i generally started to like dance music. Then shortly after i heard tunes like jan johnston - flesh (tiesto mix) and other tiesto stuff and became an instant tranceaddict . Im 18 now and just got my first set of decks right at the start of this year...so about 3 years.

5-6 years. I couldn't think about DJ'ing cause I used to live in some poor countries, but I still listened to techno and trance there. Now when I finally got a chance, I got seriously into it.

i was into the music for around 3 years before i finally decided to get decks and learn to spin. Before the 3 years, it was all about 'discovering' my musical taste n affiliation.
i still listen to a fusion of genres but trance always does it best for me.

Started DJing before trance came about... it just seemed like the natural progression of what I was doing at the time. It's actually weird having seen trance grow the way it has, but it's also nice to look back and think that you have been part of that making people dance and be happy.

Loved music all my life.

Dancing Dude

yeah i have been listening 2 trance/techno for a good 5-6 yrs and really started paying attention about 3-4yrs ago when i started clubbin a lot. then slowly started to notice djs fuckin up once in a while in clubs or parties with some really bad mixin skills:::::> i was like wtf .

my listening habbits helped me out a lot (all da old skul stuff or some nice house/ trance) .i have a passion for higher BPM tracks and i thought why not spin my own shit n then started spinin my technics since last 420 of 2k3 n i am 23 so no big deal.....hanh!
good thing i am doin pretty good in mixin/skratchin and da problem i have is dat i don't have enough records to fuck with as i am a poor fuckin Dj.

yeah it definetly helps u if u been listening for a long time.

i was into it for about a year before i got my decks. although i only ever listened to single tracks not sets, i think flow etc is something that comes naturally so just practice and you will get the hang of it.

A quality addiction to trance for 2.5 years led me to getting decks and I hope to become big with DJing and producing trance. I want to give back to the lovely music that I love so much.
