Talking Really strange question

Why are there both 1/4 inch and 1/8 plugs for sound equipment?

simply put...1/4" is for more professional equipment while 1/8" is for more consumer equipment. has to do with sound fidelity i believe but I can't answer that confidently without looking it up.

i do believe that larger gauge wires were used with 1/4" 15years ago and that 1/8" plugs had smaller wires. As you know the size of the wire and the amount of ohmz correspond. However, i do believe they broke that idea and now you can interchange them (which is why you can throw a 1/4" adapter on a 1/8" nipple).
