Ok, I love this game, who plays? What server you on and what do you wanna be when u grow up :P
I'm AkroBatik on the Bartz server, and im considering either phantom ranger or shadow knight (Dark elf). |
I played the open beta last month and I wasn't very impressed.
Let's start with the obvious. The game is gorgeous. No questioning that. However, upon starting the game we see its first flaw, lack of character customization. The character creation screen allows two faces, 5(i think) hairstyles, and 2 different hair colors. That's it. Everyone looks the same, aside from armor and weapons. Not really a huge problem, but it bothered me.
Next we come to one of my bigger issues. The user interface. I really hate the point and click system that NCsoft used. It just feels too clunky to me. Also, it becomes even more unweildy during stressful situations (ie. group pvp).
Leveling up is quite tedious as well. If you have ever played Everquest you can tell right away that the level grind on L2 is much steeper. I mean if killing 1000s of mobs that con green/light blue (enemies that are 3-5 levels lower than you) is your idea of a good time then L2 is the game for you. Ok, so maybe you want to take a break from all that leveling and maybe make some cash. What do you do? That's right kill 1000s of mobs that con green/light blue that have a 0.08% chance of dropping something rare. Or you could activate a quest where you go kill an infinite amount of certain mobs for x reward. Fun.
Finally we come to my biggest gripe about the game. Botters and exploiters. What is a botter you ask? A botter is someone who uses a third-party program to hunt/farm/level-up without actually having a person behind the keyboard controlling the character. Most of the people who did this would sell the adena(currency in the game) the had obtained from days of nonstop farming on ebay. Now this, in and of itself, wasn't the problem. The problem was hunting areas become so saturated with botters that it became difficult for regular players to find anything to hunt. Then we have the exploiters. The people abused a certain quest to obtain obscene amounts of money in very little time. So now we have an economy flooded with millions upon millions of adena. This coupled with the promise of no character wipe at the end of the beta leads one screwed up economy during retail.
The game wasn't all bad though. I liked that it was very pvp oriented. I liked that if someone pissed me off I could just kill them. Although the karma/pvp system needs some serious reworking. I'm also sure that the end game castle sieging and clan v. clan stuff would be really fun.
So is L2 worth 15 bucks a month. In a word. No.
Well, lets just say that NCsoft has a lot of work to do before I would consider paying for this game.
Oh yeah, I played an assassin on the Seighardt. Got her to 27 before the beta ended. Also got a lot of screenshots that I would post, but I don't have anywhere to host them.
