should i get final scratch?

im picking up a pair or tech M5Gs and im not sure if i should spend the money on final scratch...is it the same thing as using regular vinyls and how is the quality? is there a noticeable difference....money in the long run is not really a concern to me ....any suggestions whether to get it or not?

STOP!

Don't get it just yet. In the coming weeks Rane is supposed to unveil their version called Sereto Scratch Live or something. Many people are concinved it is the next messiah. While I suppose it will be a little better than FS (FS's main weakness is the hardware, something Rane should get right) I believe there is a lot of "grass is greener" syndrome and also the hype to working version ration is rather high. Everyone thoght FS was awsome and going to take over the world when there only exposure to is was playing with it at trade shows.

My recommendation is to wait and see how people compare the two. In the mean time keep buying vinyl. If you decide you will be using one of the two at somepoint in the near future then go ahead and buy CDs too with the idea of playing then through the computer.

Also ask your self why you need it. I truly hope the answer is not so you can play out with your massive mp3 collection.

PS (I am satisfied with FS for the most part)

i've owned final scratch before. Wait for rane/serato, it will most likely be alot better.

if the dude's buying new M5Gs, i dont think spending money on vinyl is the issue.

i dont see the point of it to be honest

Your pretending to spin vinyl- using an imitation record- that sounds worse, using exactly the same techniques as you would playing a genuine record....

The cash that final scratch costs could buy a lot of records....

just my 2 euros worth

Im not starting out- ive been a professional dj for many years.
I manage to take several thousand tracks to work every night as it is, with no problems (3 record boxes totalling 350 12"s and 2 cd wallets totalling in the region of 600 cds), and most important- all my stuff is reliable- if you have to take a back up box incase your hard drive crashes, it kinda defeats the point..

Cd technology and acceptance is not up to standard yet- this is even further behind

For me, it was quite an ordeal to get it working, and i still can't get it to work on my laptop, I have to run it on my tower, which is annoying. Everyone has mixed emotions about it, I have to admit I love it when it works, and no matter what people say you ***can*** buy MP3's and WAV files online and support the record companies. Sites like beatport.com and bedrock have downloadable files for programs like FS. For someone who does not have a load of cash or access to a repuatable record shop, it can be helpful. But look foreward to a possible ordeal in getting it to work.

If I were you (I wish I would have done this myself) I would have waited for serato to come out, and get the reviews from that. But the fact remains that Scratch Live runs on the XP platform, not the Linux one. TFS 1.5 runs horribly on XP on my laptop, but 1.1 runs perfectly on Linux on my tower. Just be careful and see what people say.

Nice of you to notice Freak

I am still around but have just had access to a friends 'real' studio for the past month so have have taken full advantage of that... many sleepless nights. Not to mention quite a lot of DJ work.
Nem gets the fealing that the summer is going to bring trance out in a new light this year.

Cheers
Nem

PS
FS... great if you travel on planes or like technology, bollocks for anything else on the other hand traveling with a CD wallet is just as good.
