Smoking ..umm..something Mixer Reviews-what has been your favorite?

what are good points???bad points??sound quality??

ones i have played on:

1-Vestax PMC 46 MK2 -this has been my favorite up till now because it is laid out really well and the crossfader curve adjust is really nice...plenty of input/outputs.aux send send returns....although sound quality a bit crappy.

2-Vestax PMC 27A MKw/knob kit -this was also a nice mixer to play on...the kills were cool....but the crossfader was horrible, lack of outputs.

3-Pioneer3000w/knob kit/DJM500 ---the 3000 with the knob kit is a cheap piece o crap IMO....for both the 3000/500 the effects are cool, the crossfader on the 3000 is nice while the 500 comes in a bit hard.while working with the knobs on the 3000 i though they were gonna break of in my hands.very cheap mixer and sound quality on 3000/500 is nothing to write home about.

4-Rane 2016 with eq module-I don't know what the fuss is about this one..the kick has no balls, sound quality is no better than the 46....the crossfader is adjustable,, the standard comes with a 60mm xfader...thats the longest one i've seen....a bit to long for my taste.but u can get a 45mm replacement..it really was not impressive at all.

5-Urei 1620 - This is hands down the best mixer i have ever heard in my live thus far....the kick is bananas and the highs are beautiful and crisp...play'n music...any music for that matter on that mixer is playing it to u the way u r supposed to hear it....no eq' or any processing...just flat it sounds amazing....very expensive....i paid 1700usd for it.Also the mixer is not pratical for a trance/techno dj IMO...no gains..no eq per channel..no features at all.....this thing makes u wanna run mixes 4ever
that way house heads love it!

6-Allen Heath Xone 62 - I liked this mixer alot....loved the filters....sound was prolle the next best i've heard....although the crossfader dipped out to much for me and was not adjustable for a full curve..and the slides were abit close to gether...The 4 eq was also a nice bonus.

 I have a Dateq XTC and Xone 92 on the way....I have a feeling the xone 92 is gonna be my next mixer for a long time....they added more features than the 62 and have given it a fully adjustable crossafader....LIke a mixer made for me!!!
But i have to also see what the fuss is about the dateq..(i have external filter for it) .....i will let u guts know what the outcome is!!!BTW i will be having the chance to play on the Allen heath V6....that might turn out to be the best....I look foward to other peoples reviews!!!

o yeah.....i use both faders, knobs and crossfaders....i use them both for play'n!so we don't need to go into a debate about which is a better method.

I would really like to try a urei 1620 or bozak mixer. Oh well.

here's my list of favorie mixers i have used.

1. Xone:62-- Great eq's very good vca filters.

2. Rane Empath- Own and love this badboy. very musical EQ, great effects loop, Nice layout, Great faders, best 3 channel mixer period!

3. Rane mp2016/xp2016- great sound quality, just good stuff.

4. Pioneer DJM-909- Really like the touchscreen LCD for effects. Nice x-fader w/ tension adjustment, Great effects onboard.

5. Rane TTM-56- made for turntablist but has a surprisingly good sound quality, magnetic faders will never die, great fx loop.

Rane Empath...worth every penny and then some. Best faders and sound quality, can't say enough about it.

Some nice mixers mentioned but definately worth noting that there are stacks of them not mentioned that are just as worthy and in some cases better.

Cheers

hmmm...do you really think the tascam X-9 should be among those mixers? I used one, and it felt really cheap and not well built. Its just a Pioneer rip off from what I've heard.

Quite the opposite actually, X-9 is very well made and doesn't feel cheap at all. It is prolly one of the most sophisticated and best designed mixers I ever tested out and then used for the last 10mnths.
There is no such thing as a rip-off from another mixer, first off, yeah many mixers can look alike, but there is no copyrights nor patents on the way a mixer looks, features may be patented and copyrighted though. Secondly, X-9's layout is much better than pioneers, controls are smoother and it has tons more features than the djm600. Yeah X-9 takes a few times to get used to, but once you do, you won't be looking at another mixer for a long time. As a matter of fact, I had to sell my set up due to financial issues, now that I'm getting back on my feet, this coming thursday, I'll be testing out the new Xone 092 when they arrive at our shop, and I'll make my decision between that and X-9.as of right now, it is 90% that I'll be getting the X-9 again. Too great of a mixer with very nice features and at a great price.

Cheers...
