Unhappy Someone, Please...Please... Help me!

Ok..I have always had a passion for Dj-ing. I been in the Dj thing for about 1-Year.

My Current setup is
(1) Pioneer DJM 600
(2) CDJ 800's
(2) Numark tt200's
(1) Pc- Using BPM Studio/Sound Forge For recording my sets.

I noticed sometimes I can beatmatch ok. But lately I have been sucking ass!! I can't match a beat for my life. I get so pissed off and frustrated I even threw my headphones this weeekend. I have read many threads on how people can beatmatch in like 3 to 6 months. And here I am still cant beatmatch all that great and it's been one year.Am I spinning the wrong genre? I spin Trance. Maybe I have the wrong records??? (although I believe you can mix any track together)Should I just hang up my headphones?

PLease post all your thoughts.

I'll put up a demo of mine by the end of the week!!!!!

Just persevere, that's all you can do. If that passion for DJ-ing you talk about is strong enough, you will keep at it even when things aren't going your way. Practice, Practice, Practice! In the end, you'll find that things start turning out better if you keep at it.

we all go through that. Some days i can't mix while last night i mixed this killer progressive house that i didn't record. It seems like at every party or everytime i record my mixing just sucks. But when i don't take it seriously i mix much better.

yep I agree with everything that has been said here so far... i've also noticed too that when I just spin a set for hell of it, it never turns out that good. but if I really want it and im feeling the music and cant stand still then those sets just kick ass. its all about the mindset your in.

yea it just takes practice. beatmatching comes eventually. may take longer for some but either way Anyone can beatmatch if they practiced enough. the most important part is HOW you put your music together. so dont get too bogged down on something that will eventually work. i say focus on your style and technique. try not to think too hard about it. beatmatching comes best when uyou just dont think about it in my experience.

on a side note, i beatmatch better when im using better equipment. i notice definitly that im better with nicer headphones [better going from like sony v700 to sennheiser...or bad monitors to good monitors] so you may want to try to pinpoint the problem. some people cant tell one song from the other, some have no rhythm, some cant count... some cant tell which is faster etc. maybe after a while you may want to figure out what your problem is. mine is usually that i cant tell one song from the other sometime but it helps to have clearer speakers.

but in the end... just practice. it will come. no worries just be patient and you will be rewarded in the future. allt he practice will be worth it.

I have to agree with Weasil, your mindset plays a BIG part, if I'm not in the mood, then I do a crap mix, but if I'm hyper or got a couple of drinks in me, I just want to party and have fun, and thats when I do my best mixing.

Lately though I been doing pretty crap, I think I know why though, I haven't really DJed in the past 3 weeks, I'm getting bored with my record collection, so the thrill of mixing isn't at an all time high right now, and my speakers are getting pretty crap, I'm finding it hard to hear the track from my monitor, and trust me its loud enough.

Anyway, like what most people have said, you do go through phases of good mixing and bad mixing, its a pain in the ass, but it happens, the only may to make this less likely to happen is DJ more and buy more records, but just keep on spinning and you will drop a killer set sooner than later.

I've been in a slump where it seems like every time I try to beatmatch it takes forever. I haven't been like that for 6 months. Yea, I got pissed off when it happened, but I also stuck with it. It was also in part because I changed the way I was doing things (both ears in the headphones to one). Stick with it, don't get pissed it will come back. And I agree, mood is everything. You're probably just psyching yourself out. Drink a couple drinks to relax (I suggest rum and cokes, but hey, that's me) and try again.

Yeah man, I agree with wut all of u said. You have to really get into the mood to mix, not cause u have to. And wut helps to get u in the mood is gettin sum fresh material to spin, like sumthin u wanna throw down to see all the people go nuts over(pretend, if u're a bedroom DJ). It shouldn't be too hard since u got your CDJs over there .

yeah get pumped and practice a ton.

I notice my beatmatching slumps when I don't practice at least twice a week. and when I practice it is usually only for 2 hours er so. SO make sure you practice a lot, and record your mixes.

and a good mood and a few beers never hurt any dj.

Hey I was thinking, to make things more intresting for you, why not try and broadcast it using shoutcast, that would raise the level of excitement abit, and have like 2 or 3 beers, or like Dirk said...a rum and coke, I personal have Inferno Vodka and some coke, but to each there own.

If none of this works, send your equipment to me, and I'll spin with it and see if its your setup or not, and I promise to send it back after.
