In a sense it's both a blessing and curse when it comes to spinning vinyl.
It sucks when you can't get your hands on a track that you want, but I think that the limited edition nature of (most) vinyl helps to add value, as well as creating a degree of uniqueness for those of us that don't have everything on promo lists mailed to us.
For this reason, I think that vinyl tends to hold it's value fairly well, so long as it is in decent condition. A more extreme example would be a local buddy of mine, who has a copy of Orbital - Halycon on vinyl, apparently it's worth a few hundred bucks at this point...
We may see a mass migration to digital decks and spinning legitimate MP3s in the near future, but I'm not sure doing so is a good thing for the industry overall...
