How Do You Torque Your Tone Arm?

Some of you are probably sick of reading my problems with my tone arm. I am sorry. Many of you were thinking that since my tone arm goes flying to the outside of the platter when I drop the needle (my anti skate is set to 0) that I have a broken anti skate. Today I spoke with a technics repair man who said it probably wasn't anti skate but was more likely a problem with my tone arm torque. He said it was probably thrown out of whack during shipping (I just bought this 1200mk2 on ebay) and it needs to be retorqued. So for all you serious techies out there I need some serious advice on how to torque the tone arm (sounds almost pornographic)! I would take it to a repair shop but I am 900 miles (literally) from the nearest one. So I am here, tiny screwdrivers in hand and the deck on the table ready to start tinkering.

While I really have nothing to add to help you, perhaps you should keep your problem to one thread instead of 3 or 4... Hopefully someone else will be able to help you with your problem.

my thoughts exactly.

I take it you don't have an owners manual (not sure if the info would be in there). Check the internet, I know there is at least one major site with details on maintaing and fixing the 1200s.

I can sense anger brewing. No need to get frustrated with these posts. Perhaps I misunderstood the protocol for posting threads. I have only posted three of these and each was a progression from the previous one. I just assumed that each thread should be specific and that way you could get a better understanding of what was going on and I could get better advice. Wrong rational?

As for asking the technics guy how to torque it, I did, over the phone (I am 900 miles from the nearest repair center). He said "it was tricky" and "hard to explain on the phone" but that I should get a service manual. I ordered one but in the meantime I thought maybe someone here could give some advice about torque.

U can always send him a bottle of vodka since he has a serious drinking problem and he could use the support.
