For all you TA's in the ATL area, or anyone who wouldn't mind coming down, tell me what you think of this.

As you may know, just north of Atlanta is Lake Lanier. Its man made, so theres a lot of little islands all over the lake which just beg for a beach party. So my friend and I were tossing ideas around and we thought it would be bad ass to throw one this summer.

Its extremely tentative, and I'm not even sure of the legalities of it. But as long as there isn't a shitload of alcohol and no drugs, it could probably be done. I live on the lake its very popular to do overnight island parties, where lines of houseboats (sometimes 8-10 or more) all beach themselves on an island. I've never seen any as rowdy as your average rave (though I have seen such on a houseboat crusing around), but as far as I'm aware loud music and all night partying aren't illegial in the middle of the lake.

So we are wondering how many of you TA's around here would support the idea, or would come out if we did do it. If any of you have access to houseboats or know anyone who does and might be intrested, let me know. The current idea is to have everyone meet in one spot, then board a boat to the island of choice, party all night, and them camp out on said boats overnight, then leave in the morning (or afternoon, if anyone is up for a day on the lake). If we couldn't get large boats, im sure we could at least find people with smaller ones to ferry people there and back. I'm also thinking the 4th of July would be the best time to do it, since there is a spectacular fireworks show on the lake for the 4th, which would go along perfect with the party.

OMFG! If you do this, I'm there. Sounds like a real tight idea.

I could bring my boat up, its only a fish & ski though so it only holds 4 or 5 ppl, but it also gets around much faster than a house boat And of course I would love to spin.

Well the current best bet is July 4th, since a lot of people will be partying and DNR, though out 3x in force, would probably be less likely to care. This also means we can enjoy the fireworks show. One problem this does bring up though is that random assholes might notice our party and show up, either getting the thing too large and attracting the cops, or bringing a lot of drugs/beer, causing the same. One way to solve this tho is to pick one of the islands with a long strip of beach, and rocks around the rest of it, then beach any boats parallel to the shore to keep idiots away. I'm thinking we should cap it off at like 75-100 people. Everyone could meet at a marina, then board boats and head off for the destined island.

The biggest problem would potentially being busted. I really dont know how tolerant DNR would be to something like this. Unlike raves in abandoned warehouses or in a field in the middle of nowhere, it would be difficult to hide it. As far as I know, though, theres no laws against gathering and partying on islands, chains of beached boats pretty much a daily occurance on this lake during the summer (though honestly I've never heard of someone throwing a rave, but there have been some rowdy parties before). Of course, thats part of raves, they're generally not legal and can get busted.

Btw we also need potential volunteers for things like speakers, decks, generators, and especially boats. Oh, and DJ's too

i know that you live on the lake and everything but july 4th weekend doesn't sound that great just because of the massive amounts of rednecks that are on the lake that weekend...it's a great idea and i have always wanted to do something like that but not on that date =(. I know someone tried to do this a few years back but it flew through the cracks but that doesn't mean us ta's couldn't get something together =)

Well we can do other days, no problem. The idea for the 4th was that since so many other people would be out, the cops would be less likely to care about our little party, and would probably be occupied chasing drunks out on the lake. And, of course, the fireworks.

We're still very open and flexible about planning, and its you guys who would make this happen, so tell me when you think would be best. As far as rednecks go, pretty much any weekend during the summer your going to see them out in force anyways .

I'd be happy to spin at the party and help out with other things. I'm sure if the party does go down, we won't have a problem finding Djs. There are always more Djs than needed.

I could donate some sound as well. Nothing special, but I think it would be enough to satisfy a crowd of 100 or less.

Put me on the list and let me know if it gets past the tentative stage. If it's done right, this party would probably be one of the better ones of the year. And I think we could keep it legal enough so it wouldn't get shut down earlier. We just have to be smart about everything and lay down some basic rules for the party. If you break the rules, you get shipped back to the main land....

Well its late April, so if this thing is gonna go down we probably need to start planning it. So I'm bumping this thread.

Right now, the real problem is getting busted. An island party like that is pretty much impossible to hide, since DNR is always out in force during the summer. My current idea anyways is to get a long stretch of beach, and some helpful folks with long, tall houseboats. Park them parallel to the shore, blocking view of the party from the outside, also blocking some sound (while I'm not too concerned about sound... it will carry far, but would rarely be heard over a boat engine). So, things would have to be kept pretty low profile. Keep lighting down to bonfires and such. I'll also look into the laws on island use/parties.

Another issue to think about: Camping on the beaches/islands is illegial and would get things broken up instantly. But hopefully, anyone who comes would be tough enough to stick it out all night long - though this kind of ruins the possibility of having a 2-3 day little island vacation out there (how fucking cool would that be though? non stop raving on an island on the lake for 36 hours gotta figure out how to make it happen).

Also, we need equipment. Anyone who can bring decks/mixer, speakers, wires, BOATS, or whatever, post back.

So, anyone else who would be down for this and can help plan just reply here.
