File Sharing Views.

I was reading Mauro Picotto's views on file sharing and his views very much contrast with Johan Gilen's on file sharing who thinks people should be punished. This is what Picotto said in a interview:

Q: Your first club gig was in 1985 -- the industry has changed since then: live shows, studio albums and file sharing online. Any thoughts?

Of course corporate intervention is the most notable difference. I do miss the times when dance music was just dance music; now it's broken into different genres, but of course this has opened new musical avenues. For an aspiring DJ or producer, file sharing is a vital marketing tool. I'm sure the major record labels will disagree with me though.

-------------------

This probably reflects the techno scene as a whole and there is some dj/producers (like Gielen) out there for the money.

File Sharing and ASOT made AVB realy really famous now his song played on NYC radio he is deffinetly making more money cause people were sharing his music.....

its different for RAP/Pop/Rock

because they all make artist albums and it takes them a long time to do it DJ/Producers are always making new songs and our scene is changing faster then any other...

i'm not sure i know what you mean by this.

In my opinion, it takes dj's and producers just as long to make up an album as it does for any rap/hip hop star. If a producer is constantly churning out tunes then the likelyhood is they will not be very good. Any good producer will take a lot of time before releasing certain songs, no matter if its trance, techno, or hip hop and rap.

I'll answer this with a short review of my day.

- wake up, shower
- eat
- go on my hub, talk to a few people who are still up talking crap 'cos they've not slept for 48 hours...
- stick a recent\favourite DJ Set on
- queue up a few tunes.. download them in a couple of minutes
- listen to them, decide if i want them or not
..and here is the key part
- i vist any one of 10 online record shops, and *buy* them.

This is true for most of the DJs on my hub.. and that's quite a few.

The way i see it.. services like my hub, are not only not having an adverse affect on the dance music industry, but they are infact helping it to grow considerablyly, and at an increased rate. I enjoy listening to DJ Sets, and i enjoy listening to songs via the internet before i buy them. Is that a crime? Well.. yes, but in the end it's a rather contradictory one, since the very thing that the laws governing this area are meant to be protecting, they are infact hindering.
So here's the scoop... if the record labels want my money, they should be quiet, if not.. then by all means sue me.. and lose a value customer, as well as 2000+ others using my hub

OLDo

Has anyonee seen the user BPI on Soulseek (apparently the British Phonographic Industry).

It claimed Soulseek won't be up for much longer and it advised us to uninstall Soulseek, I don't know if it was real but it did seem to convince people as it seemed to know it's stuff.
