i dont know whats worse... someone with an instant disregard of one's viewpoints or the new trait of closemindedness among all... I especially hate the word "sucks." Especially when someone merrily states, "_________ sucks." How rational And to go as far as stating, "_______ sucks. Period." is just morbid and why so deliberate in casting Bright Eyes into the genre of "emo?" I'm truly hoping you only believe the band to be "emo" because of the lyrics.. as far as the instrumentation, it can't be so fastly tagged with a genre (as most feel it's in their nature to do), ranging from bluegrass to drunks hollering of their sorrows in the local bar to merrily just a piano and cello. You attempt to write such words of lyrical bliss, or rather "emo," since this genre and "sub-culture?" is so inferior. Forgive me for the long, dramatization, but you cease to realize you have spoken words of repremand towards my husband |
The brevity of my statement is no indication that my experience with Bright Eyes and emo is likewise. I've had more than my fair share of listening to Bright Eyes, and other emo bands, so I know what I'm talking about when I say that I think the music is terrible. As for Bright Eyes being emo...I'm just calling a spade a spade. I could bring up reasons why, but there's no point in arguing with a brick wall. My ability to "write such words of lyrical bliss" has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of Bright Eyes' music(or should I say Conor's, since he's the only constant member of the "band" it seems). I do not judge music in reference to my own ability, I judge it in reference to what I think sounds good. And by the way, stop with the obsession, it's scaring me.

eh hem Darling, you are absolutely just. Bright Eyes "sounds" terrible, malicious. How could such a heinous sound be produced ? How sloppy, how dis-assembled, how thrashingly ridiculous. How in the right state of mind could any being soak in the the off key beat, the drunken screaming, the words of nothing and everything, the clashing of 20 different instruments.. I see the beauty in it. I was just trying to convert you, as do the Latter Day Saints who come knocking at your door. hmmmm another helpless victim.. lol just kidding. I acknowledge your opinion. Have you ever been to a concert ? The sad dilemma is, I reside in Missouri. He is as close as Nebraska, but yet I've never seen him live. I may despise Bright Eyes in the next year, you never know. I'm just a fan because of the vivacious words.

Phew, good to see you're not a bitch about it. Funny thing though, I go to school in Lincoln, at UNL. Well, I did, and will. In Bath, UK for the semester though. Get down to Omaha every once in a while. When I get back this summer I probably won't be in Lincoln quite yet, but hopefully I can still make it to a free 311 concert in Omaha in July. Never been to a Bright Eyes (or any emo band)concert, though I almost went to a Cursive concert last year...not really by desire, but just because of the context of the situation I had nothing better to do. Ended up not going though.

conor oberst is a genius, i dont care if you like the music or not. just take a look at the lyrics. they are beautiful. i like a lot of their stuff, and im not a big emo fan at all. sometimes i am just looking for a change, and its nice to wind down for a bit and listen to some bright eyes.
