they lose almost right off the bat. the coach quits. and basically, the best player was the goalie. how will they even make it to hosting their own world cup in 2006??

Dont the hosts get in automatically?? Or did Fifa change this? By the way the quality of German football(ers) is pretty poor of late.

huh? its football isn't poor. Its offensive skills are.
Voeller made poor selections and poor choices for the starting lineup. He payed the price with his resignation.
I think a couple of talented strikers are needed to get this team going. Midfield and defence are excellent and there's plenty of other good goalies in case Khan decides to retire.
I wouldn't worry too much for the Germans, they'll bounce back! (no one saw them near the finals in wc2002 and they still made it).

I agree with the Voeller statement but German football is not at that great at the moment. Kahn has had a bad season and if he doesnt rebound this year than he should hang up his boots. Ballack is great, Bastian Schweinsteiger is a great upcoming talent. To me though their defense is poor and their strike force as you said is poor as well. Klose and Kuranyi just cant get it done. I think they will rebound for 2006 though and hopefully since you never want to see a host get humiliated.

the hosts are exempt from qualifying, therefore Germany won't have to worry bout that, but how will they fare? hmm...not too good it appears...where's klinnsman when you need him??...

It appears, lots of coaches have turned down the offer of replacing Völler. Current favourites are Guus Hiddink (Holland) and Morten Olsen (Denmark), if you believe the media.
I sincerely hope they choose Hiddink. Let him deal with the hysteria of a nation expecting 1st class results, even they don't have the team for it

Being Dutch I can't say that I'm totally inpartial, but yeah, they need to improve some aspects (0-0 Latvia? hahaha)
Though, Oranje needs to make some changes too , but we got Van Basten now

Germans always are up and down of the last 10 years..... but i truely think with a new coach and wc2006 being in germany you will see a rebirth of young players to come up and really put out and germany being one of the top teams to look out for. i dont think they will fail in there own WC

This happens...I for one am quite pleased to see Germany not doing well. They were lucky to make the WC 2002 Final if you ask me. But as I said, this happens to nations...the next batch of players for a few generations aren't nearly as good as the ones who won the championships. Look at England in the 60's...great team with some of the greatest stars ever, but once the 70's rolled around, they were shite and missed the 74 and 78 WC. Brazil also were shite in the late 70's and all of the 80's.
