Unhappy Help me put a trance-hater straight.

There's this idiot at my school, saying, amongst other equally stupid things:

"Trance isn't music, it's made with computer, computers can't make music"

"Trance is such a nerdy genre of music, only fat computer nerds make it or listen to it"

"You don't need to be talented to make trance, everybody can do it, so it's not real music".

Not that this is so hard to counter, but what would you say?

All music is made with computers today in one way or another.

Show them a picture of Kai Tracid, Simon Posford or John '00' Fleming.

You don't need to be talented to make rock or hiphop either. To make GOOD rock, trance or hiphop however, you do need talent.

Re: Help me put a trance-hater straight.

You can't generalize a genre of music by only having listened to a few selections-- in this person's case, prolly pretty bad representations of "trance" music. Computers are the instrument through which EDM musicians translate their language into audible form. Let this person listen to a few "classics" to let them understand that EDM is an acquired taste and to not be so closed-minded as to limit themselves to their initial opinion without fully exploring "trance" music and EDM...

hehe there have been many threads about this, but I guess I'll start if off with:

Oakenfold's GU07 New York is a really good way to introduce someone to "trance."

or go with PvD- Another Way, For an Angel, Face to Face, Crush, Together We Will Conquer

and Motorcycle- As the Rush Comes (G&D remix)

also for consideration are Linkin Park-Numb(Michael Feihstel remix) and/or Evanescence-Hello(G&D remix) to ease the transition.

the other thing to be aware of is that no matter how good your argument may be, some people will just not want to listen, and trying to make them listen may not be an answer

Take him to a club.

That will fix him.

I can safely say that being a good mixer is much harder than learning to be a good guitarist. Learning to rap is like learning ABC.

And playing 3 chord music like punk rock is for 16 year old kids.

You just showed that you're just like those people who hate on trance. Punk and Hiphop take as much skill and talent as EDM.

I wouldn't even waste my time. Let them be close-minded. We don't need people like that listening to EDM anyways. They can go watch TRL and see the same video 50 times. Doesn't make my life any better.

Fuck em.

I don’t think you need to provide people with strong facts about trance to make them like it. It’s pointless to change someone’s opinion by being forceful. Trust me, millions of people on this planet have no idea what trance is and still live happy life’s. Don’t worry about them.

An for Christ sake, don’t show anyone picture of Kai Tracid…people will think that trance is gay.
