Latency

Hi TA's,

I would like to know what your latencies are ( input and output if possible ) at a given buffersize ( 4000 samples for example ). Could you guys also post your hardware specs with the drivers installed.

Greetings

athlon xp2200+
via kt133a chipset (the infamous 686b southbridge)
768 mb sdram pc133
audigy bulk card
windows xp sp1
cubase sx 2.01
audio drivers kx 3524
output latency 11.06 ms for most projects, sometimes 22 (when some nasty virtual synths are in the project) at 48000 hz (since this is a limitation of a soundchip).

p4 2.6 800mhz
pc 800 mb
512 ddrram
terratec dmx 6fire
windows xp sp1
logic 5.5
2.7 ms

I must say that I mostly don't use a lot of softsynths, and if I do I sometimes have to switch to 5.3ms (which is still a good latency for playing softsynths).

Uhh...ok. Still don't see a point to this, but I get 2.66ms with an Athlon Xp 3000+, an Audigy Gamer and the kX drivers

64 samples per buffer, 1.6 ms, when using heavy stuff I have to switch to 256 samples/buffer (5.8 ms). Only for internal stuff (effects and softsynths). If you use external hardware, you can at least count 2 ms (at least, that's for cards à la RME). The actual AD/DA conversion is not taken into account in the latency the software shows you (purely software latency).

LESS LATENCY = MORE CPU!! Easy

Old PII 350Mhz with APSLIVE drives 4ms was OK! But 4 channels and CPU was overloading.

New P4 2.8HT KX drivers: 4ms = 16-32 channels but 40ms = 64 -> haven't tested to the max
