Neither. Im personally not a huge fan of pioneer mixers, the only pioneers i would buy are the djm-909 and djm-3000. The efx500 is a good effects processor and i do like it more than a kaoss pad. As for mixer, I couldn't say enough good things about my rane empath. It's effects sends/returns are awesome. And sound quality/ergonomics/construction are all top notch.

it depends on your setup.
the djm600/3000 has the obvious advantage of being a 4 channel mixer, which means you can add lots of things to your setup as and when you want.
the efx-500 however, is a miles better fx unit than the one built into the djm600. the actual effects are the same, but it is much more controllable, and you can do 2 effects at once as the two halves of the unit are effectively seperate chained effects units.
the djm3000 is a beautiful mixer to use, the 19" layout means everything is right where you want it... if i were you, i would buy the 3000 then get an efx500 once you have saved up a little more money. then you can do 3 effects at once!
its an envious dilema
