CLINKITY CLINK Movin' Out!!!

woohoo the time has come for this bird to fly his coop and move out of this institutional correction centre aka parents home.

although i just turned 38 (its okay im asian), i think im bout ready to live away from the folks cos they wont let me play my music loud. thats a good a reason as any.

who else here has moved out on their lonesome (or even with friends for that matter)? and to you guys, can you please offer me some advice or maybe hints/tips about the dangers/perks of this monumental occassion.

also peeps in melb, wheres a nice cheap area for 3 bedroom dwellings? (when i say cheap i dont mean doveton/melton cheap)

*cue theme to mary tyler moore show*

Mate you're about to take your first big step out into the real world

If you're like most guys and mum has done your washing, cooking, cleaning and ironing since you were born, you're in for a bit of a culture shock. Use the last few weeks you're at home to learn these things. If cooking really isn't your thing, invest in a toaster and/or jaffle iron.

If money is going to be a bit tight, find mates to move in with. Living on your own sounds cool, but when all the housework can only be done by one person (you), you stop doing it pretty quickly. That's when things get messy.

Aside from that, I dunno .. make sure you get some furniture too. When I first moved out it was into a three bedroom house as well - your furniture looks pretty impressive packed into your bedroom, but spread it out across an entire house and suddenly you realise how little furniture you have. And for the first six months you'll be thinking "where's the , oh shit I don't have one. Have to go out and buy it."

Enjoy

No probs

Living with two chicks =

You can probably get out of most cooking (assuming they can cook) by offering to do the washing up, but you're probably still going to have to wash and iron for yourself. And at least do some cleaning (mow the lawn, that's pretty easy)

4 things for you to know jizza:

1) Milk Crates - these are a godsend!!! Need a table - 4 crates and a bit of chipboard - done! Need some more chairs - milk crate with a pillow on top - Done! Need a book shelf or desk - Yep Milkcrates are your man!! Acquire as many of these beauties as you can - its not a sharehouse if it doesnt contain at least 15 milk crates! (i currently have 4 milk crates stacked under my stereo as its support, 2 milk crates for my books, a milk crate for the laundry basket, 4 milk crates (with special foam top) for seats out the backyard, and about 8 milk crates for storing the bottles of our home brew kit! Milk crates never go out of fashion!!

2) Get a hold of "He Died With A Felafel In His Hand" by John Birmingham! He explains the true intricacies of sharehouse living....

3) On a more serious note, if u r a non-smoker and dont want to live with a smoker. Dont move in (or let one move in to your place) with a smoker even if they say they will smoke outside only. It never lasts! After 2-3 weeks the person will feel that the house is as much thiers as anyone elses and from that point on your house will smell like the inside of a crematorium!! Trust me just dont do it!!

4) Anything you take to the house becomes house property - im not going to explain this, its one of the joys ( )of sharehouse living, ill let you discover it on your own!!

But that was just a dream, That was just a dream, But that was just a dream, Try, cry, why try? That was just a dream ,Just a dream, just a dream, Dream

my tips;

have your name on as little bills as possible. if you cant get out of it, shortest term possible. this means if you want to move on, ie, your flatmates suck, you can do so quite easily.

dont move in with friends, if you fight heaps, youll lose friends, if u move in with ppl that u dont know, doesnt matter if you leave on bad terms, you havent lost anythig.

be easy going, give more than u take (err or whatever), like if someone doesnt do their night of cooking or whatever, just let it go. dont make issues out of stupid matters, they build and fights happen more.
but obviously if someone isnt putting in, make sure they know.

and seriously, cook yourself, its so easy to get into habit of getting chinese / subway / pizza, but you go through shitload of $$s.

hrmm, go see ure parents on sundays or something "to keep in contact" but really, for a free meal - home cooking never tasted so good....

yer, living out of home is wicked, just expensive.

Werd to this .. otherwise you end up fighting non-stop with the people you live with and that just fucking sucks.

Also if you want cheap food, you can't go past Mi Goreng noodles. They taste reasonable and have zero nutritional value, but 10 bucks for a box of 30 can't be beaten
