Hardware for other types of music ?

Hi,

does anyone know what hardware other styles use ? If you go trance you are almost sure to bump into virus/JP series in the pro's studio. But what about house or R&B (the N.E.R.D. stuff), and all that stuff ?

Just curious, no interest in actually producing R&B or anything, but I'm just curious what the other side of the world looks like

well I know that a lot of hip hop/R&B producers use Mini Moogs..and your almost certain to see an Akai s5000 sampler in there...and probably a lot of workstations like a Triton, ect...but I don't think there is any sort of rule of thumb here where you have to use a certain type of hardware...music is changing so much now...you can tell by the sound of hip hop/R&B using a lot more electronic sounds in the mix. The whole beauty of music production is imagination and creativity so if you can make it work in your track then use it. The reason why a person would get a hit record(most of the time) is cause the track is different then all the rest.

samplers and real instruments are very common when it comes to styles like RnB but they also use synths, I think the most common ones are nordlead, virus and drummachines like the 909

Are those 909's worth their money ? I mean I played with it at a couple of expositions, and they were pretty damn fun. Nice sounds also. But can you keep adding new samples to that thing ? It would be way more fun messing with such a thing all day then with the redrum from reason

as far as I know the 909 isn't a sampler but I might be wrong there

and to keep it a little to the subject, this is a list of the studio that bloodshy & avant use (the two swedish producers that did Britney spears - toxic )

I'll just keep it to what synths they use but I can post the full list too if anyone want

Novation supernova
Micromoog
Roland SH09

in the interview they also mention some other synths that they don't use very much nowdays and they are:

Roland SH32
Roland 2080/5080
Minimoog Oscar

for sequencing and sampling they use a Akain MPC3000 and they also use a Korg electribe drummachine

apart from that they use real instruments

There's two 909s. There's the TR-909 which is an 80s drum machine and the MC-909 which is the top of the range groove-box.

You're most likely to find an MPC in the modern day hip hop studio. Seems every "mofo" has one of those.

Hahah mofo.

Well, I've seen a lot of hip-hop producers that use E-MU Planet Phat romplers in their studios and they prefer the TR-808 versus the TR-909. The 808 is that loud, deep bass on every booty song and every "everybody, HEY, everybody, HEY, muthafuckas, HEY, muthafuckas, HEY" type of song.
