Urban Exploration

Anybody here do this? I do.

For those of you who dont know what it is, it's the art of infiltrating places normal public wouldnt go. Such as exploring old abandoned buildings (houses, hospitals, factories, schools), storm / creek drains (not sewage, so this is clean), rooftops, various tunnels (steam tunnels, maintence, telecommunications, cellars), subway systems (not in use ofcourse), trainyards, airways, mines, catacombs (underground tombs), and power stations. Oh, cant forget various abandoned things such as bunkers, warships, cars, and tons more. Some may say at first, 'why the hell would you do that?', but once you read abit about it and see photos you'd be suprised and may discover a new hobby.

I have compiled a list of links for people who wanna know more and see some photos...

Drains / Tunnels:

http://dsankt.brisurbex.com/gallery...Tunnels&start=0 - amazing photography, check this one out!
http://www.urbanadventure.org/2003/drains/draining.htm
http://www.vanishingpoint.ca
http://www.actionsquad.org/underground.html
http://www.drainsofmycity.com/

Everything Else:

http://www.infiltration.org/
http://www.uer.ca/ - main resource of explorers all over the world. contains active forum, chat, and photos!
http://www.actionsquad.org/
http://dsankt.brisurbex.com/
http://www.wraiths.org/
http://sydney.caveclan.org/
http://www.infiltration.org/resources-links.html

Now, out of all the forms of Urban exploration, I find that storm drains catch me the most. Why? The simple thought of being underground in a whole new world which most people never think of going into. Some think this is dirty, and wading around in peoples feces and piss, but it's not. It's as clean as walking down the street, only you're in a tunnel with a small amount of water. What is so interesting about going underground? I don't know! It's just something you either love or dont.

Now, for abandond buildings this is always interesting. You can find things left behind that are so rare, you'll want to take and sell. Old photos, priceless other things, and lots more. Just exploring something that hasnt been entered in years is exciting. Now, the golden rule of Urban exlporation is Take only photos, leave only footprints. There for, DON'T STEAL OR DESTORY!

Anyways, the point of this post is I want to know if there is any other tranceloving urban explorers on these boards.

Werd.

I saw a documentary portion of people who do this. It looked very intersting.

All in all it seems harmless and joyfull, but people start to bitch about trespassing & etc. Heard they were trying to cutdown on this when someone died during one of these explorations (due to the exploration).

Seems interesting though.

Yes getting charged / caught for tresspassing is a main concern for Urban Explorers. Though, if we have a run-in with the law, instead of bullshitting our way out of it, we just tell the truth and they usually let us off the hook.

As for deaths, not many happen. Though unfortunatly a 14 year old boy, who was an experianced "drainer" (what us drain-explorers are called) died in a drain. It was a nice day out, him and his friend went into a drain to cooloff, and suddenly there was a flash flood. But reading up on saftey, you can assure yourself a safe exploration!

Kris, what has medication done to you? what happened to simply taking pictures of fat chicks in your backyard and sharing them on the hub while you're swearing at people at the same time?

what happened to being depressed and posting suicide threads? KRIS? YOU'RE NOT THE SAME PERSON YOU WERE BEFORE

I DON'T THINK I LOVE YOU ANYMORE

theres a bunch of underground steam tunnels and drains crisscrossing under my campus.

Everything is run underground (electricity, water, heat etc..) that why there are no power lines or anything above ground.

Theres been some spelunking into these tunnels and the people have posted their routes and stuff online. I havent had a chance to do any spelunking myself, but its looks pretty fun.

Apparently theres an old Library underground thats blocked off. Thatd be cool to check that out.

Yes, but we call it infiltrating so we sound cooler. Plus we don't steal a thing but the dust in the air.

I've thought of doing this "urban exploration" thing for quite some time now. However, both the safety concerns, as well as legal, keep me from doing it.

Uhm, any abandon building in Chicago probably has already been infiltrated by drug lords and crack whores and situated in the middle of the ghetto so.....

to answer your question, no.
