DUMONDE - most disappointing artists of the last couple years?

I think they are.

You ask a lot of people who were on these boards a few years ago who they thought were the best producer/s of 2001, and i reckon 75% would've said Dumonde. I remember the eager anticiaption for every new Dumonde remix that came and all the praise surrounding the German duo.

But what have they become? nothing. I mean you still have your loyal fans who will love every new Dumonde release, but i think if there was to be a poll on producer popularity, Dumonde would be pushing it to make the Top 25 at the moment.

I think they need to try new avenues, as their sound these days is the same as it was 3 years ago.

Thoughts / opinions?

Re: DUMONDE - most disappointing artists of the last couple years?

I agree that their uplifting/epic productions have gone down the drain big time. Kalt/Cold, Mind Made Up, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet etc. have all turned out to be absolutely dreadful. Only exception would probably be the remix of Symsonic, which hints at the glory days they used to have back in the late 90s.

However, I have always preferred Dumonde's harder and more experimental releases, such as Jam X - Warriors, Tony H - Zoo Future (Dumonde Mix) and their releases on Chaos Recs. And in this department they are still pushing quality stuff, such as their No Faces-alias and the techier trance releases on F8T like Alias - Elements. Their DJ sets are also very enjoyable for me, since they retain the will to experiment more with harder and techier takes on trance music. And in the lifeless, wishy washy ASOT-festering world trance is in currently, this kind of DJing is desperately needed.

So basically I wouldn't write Jurgen and Dominik off just yet, but I agree that they are definitely on an all time low creatively speaking.

No, it's not just DuMonde...it's the entire genre of hard trance. Seriously, it was HUGE in 2000-2001 and look at it now.

Only two remixes from the last year were good:

Balthasar - Insanity (Dumonde dub mix)
Rank 1 - Symsonic (Dumonde remix)

Their older stuff is quality, with the highlight of Never Look Back

+1

u got a point here, i thinks too that dumonde has gone really bad in their music for the past few years.
i used to adore those guys with the evil style of never look back, the remixes for marc aurel (the sun, running) , angelic - cant keep me silent , mute missed beat and more and more..
the only thing i liked from them in the last few years is the remix to rank one that reminds pretty much that older style im talking bout.

Hardtrance is a lot more than Flutlicht and SHOKK, and still very much alive and kicking. You just have to dig a bit deeper through all the hardstyle to get to it. And Dumonde was never hard trance under that alias anyway.

I disagree. In my opinion, hard trance only really took off in 2002 and was pretty damn good in 2003, in fact the strongest trance sector by some way.
