music from KOYAANISQATSI

i recently saw Koyaanisqatsi, and was impressed by the music from PHilipp Glass.
Anybody know how to get the soundtrack ('82)?

I really like the music from this film too, although I have never actually seen it (it's so hard to spell!). I like Philip Glass' music a lot, he's the master of stating the obvious, i.e. repeating two notes over and over One of my favorite compositions of his would have to be the Metamorphosis for Solo Piano. The Delta Commodore 64 version of the Koyaanisqatsi theme is very catchy!!

Philip Glass oddly enough hasn't been remixed more to my knowledge.

(If you're curious, I did a loony version of Metamorphosis a LONG time back and you can hear it here )

OH YEAH do you like the Candyman soundtrack too? Philip Glass has this real skill for composing catchy melodies over a bed of simple but shifting harmonics. That Candyman music is creeepy

not bad, how did you make that?
i actually just knew him from the "The Hours" Soundtrack, probably "the Kiss" is the most catchy theme, some of the Koyaanisqatsi themes are already similar. Its this thriving catchy thing, that is so typical. You ask yourself immediately whats gonna happen next (e.g. when one of those themes starts again and then you see the storeybuildings, s.th. completely neutral and boring; but soon they are to be blown up).

Thank you, I made that using an alesis keyboard and a Mac and some other stuff a long time back. I played in the piano part first and then added the drums and other parts, this was like 5-6 years ago but my more recent stuff is on www.torley.com . My motivation was to take the fundamental base and then do some crazy, wacky, fast stuff with it so the drums are obviously at double-speed, and I wanted to add countermelody lines for the fun of it; I got a response back from Mr. Glass and his rep but can't remember where I put that.

Good times, I had just borrowed Philip Glass music (on cassette tape!) from the public library and also collected pictures of the man, I like those ones where he is looking at the camera, hair kinda of wirey, his hand on his cheek. Glass does this thing too with the horns too, the way they arpeggiate, but LIVE, but in any case it's a *huge* precedessor and influence to trance music. He is a good interview read too.

o0o0o . . . . I'm missing out listening to "The Hours" soundtrack -- okay, will have to check that out. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip and thanks for listening, Nrg2Nfinit... I'll check it out... that mix DOES sound vaguely familiar... hmmmmmm... one thing leads to another.

That's an interesting "parallel reality", Sand Leaper. Kind of reminds me in concept of Pink Floyd & The Wizard of Oz Or, Jeff Mills' alternative soundtrack for "Metropolis"... I think Philip Glass and the Kronos Quartet even did an alt-score for "Dracula", that is, if there already wasn't one in place.

Phillip Glass also features on the soundtrack to "The Truman Show" - some of the tracks come from his work on the documentary "Powaqquatsi" (circa 1987 -88)
